after sound deadening my right-rear passenger door....i installed my scangauge today....i dont know what happened, but my 'malfunction indicator lamp' was on & stayed on!!

i was bummed. i wasnt sure if it was (1) my sound deadening, (2) my ssi, or (3) the scangauge itself that caused the indicator light to go on.

i resigned myself to take it to the dealer tomorrow. however, i drove to get some dinner...when i go back in my car.....the 'malfunction indicator lamp' was no longer lit!!! i was so relieved. i couldnt enjoy the scangauge w/ that stupid indicator lit. i hope it stays off!

anywho, i like the additional info from the scangauge. i set the displays to (1) rpms...i prefer the digital nbrs to the oem tach, (2) mpg.....obvious choice, (3) intake temp and (4) water temp. looking forward fiddling w/ this new toy/tool.

My scan gauge throws a CEL if I hook it up while the car is OFF, then start it. To avoid this problem I only connect the scan gauge when the car is already running. After I connect it this way it doesn't' turn the CEL on anymore.

Thanks! That's a relief to hear and good to know. I did the same thing...hooked it up while the car was off. It's a pretty unexpected consequence for a slight deviation in the installation.
