First time at 40mpg

Its crazy, didn't do anything different than i normally do. No hypermiling, i didn't even check my tire pressure before I left for the 110 mile trip. I had the speed varying between 70-85 without using cruse control the entire way with rain about a third of the way. I couldn't hardly believe it, i thought for sure that my gas gauge was having problems. Usually on this trip I'll get about 28-30mpg. Just thought i would share.

Not to ruin the joy, but was there a tail wind? Or less passengers? I'm jealous. I want 40mpg!
I'm not a crazy driver and my fill-up this AM produced 33mpg.

Perhaps the fill up was not complete. On mine I see 40 to 50 miles before the gas gauge points to the full mark. If it was a short fill it would be way sooner.

Did you drive until the fuel light came on and then some?

I'd bet the pump dispensed more fuel than indicated. Every-time I have seen that, the pump is slow.

Go back to that same pump with a 1 or 5 gal container and see what you get........

I have a local pump that has provided 40% more reg has sense Nov 2007

That was sweet with my (just sold 14mpg Suburban), but with the new Fit, I have not been back because I want to get decent data on MPG on it. I do have two 55 gal drums in my shop right now, I secured when I figured this out and ready for my Fit.

Wow. Some of you talk like it's a common occurrence. What are the rest of us doing wrong? I want to be a lucky bastard too!! My low 30's are a long way from 40
