Funny question I was asked about my car
haha more like, "have you ever gotten over 20 mpg?"
A Hummer is.....slang for?
Hmmm, I wonder if this is what passes for "small talk" in Hummerland?
As for the response:
1) Never been close to death, 5 Star Crash rating you know. As for the Hummer, it runs about the same. Draw there.
2) Depending on the Hummer owner's age, I might add "You do know what Hummer is slang for, don't you?". Everyone knows, I guess you need to Google it....she will I should think.
hummer - Wiktionary
3) In the end, I would have simply nodded and said death would be filling up a Hummer weekly. All the time thinkin' of the lady and her truck with the funny slang meaning.

You should have just told her to "eat a d*ck!"
And I agree with Snap Fit in that she was being facetious and trying to prove the point that her Hummer's dad could be up your Fit's dad.

OMG - I think you got slammed by the Hummer Humor - they tend to have a tude. They truly believe that big is better. I would say she was envious of your small gasoline fill up and was burned up over having to pay to fill the Hummer - which sucks gas like a pump. I always get a kick when I pre-pay 25.00 of gas and get to go back into the station and ask for my change because it did not cost 25.00 to fill it up.
Cat :x

Or even better, "have you ever gotten over 15mpg in that thing?"
In all seriousness, what she unknowingly did by asking you that question was use a common defense mechanism to defer the implied irresponsibility, wastefullness, and arrogance that Hummer owners are stereotyped to have. She may have thought you were shooting her a "fake" or sarcastic smile when you made eye contact at the pump. Even if you didn't say anything, she went on the attack to eliminate the perceived threat (you being a smarter consumer by purchasing a fuel efficient vehicle while her doing the exact opposite.)
In other words - she was trying balance the conflict by using the supposed "safety" of her Hummer due to it's size as leverage against you by comparing it to the smaller size of your Fit and the assumed safety risks that accompany that, (even if untrue) to cancel out the negatives from owning a Hummer. She's likely harboring some guilt regarding her choice of vehicle as well.
WHOA.. I went on a bit, but I can't help it - psychology major grad. You may all carry on now.

Yes, people who drive gas-guzzlers always feel inclined to defend their gas-guzzler.Best answer I know of is to say" No, but my neighbor's (insert gas-guzzler name here) driver died waiting to save enough money to buy his gas." Little do they know gas-guzzlers have a higher accident rate the econocars. But yes, big squashes little when they collide.
An alternative or adder: "no but I (or my family) have a lot of oil company stock. Thanks for making my Fit payment."
I get more satisfaction out of that one based on the looks on their faces.

Hummer drivers dont have normal thought processes. If they did they would not be driving a big ass peice of American junk..
But, that is one of the stupidest questions ive ever heard...EVER!

see, my brother's gf has a hummer and she is about 5' tall, so it's extremely funny to me...anyways, she totally does NOT have the hummer attitude, though my efforts to get her to buy a fit instead were fruitless.
she said she just genuinely likes the car and was finally able to financially pick the car she wanted, so she went all out.
so hopefully there are more hummer owners out there like her and we're unfortunately just seeing the worst of them instead.

Hummer=lobster??
hahaha!
The Danes are probably more confused than us on the hummer's popularity...
