Price for new Base model Automatic

Hello all, I have been reading up for the past few days and have learned alot from this forum. I have a price paid question... I am ready to purchase a Base model Storm silver base model automatic. I saw somewere online that a guy got one for 15,200 out the door. I have offered 15,000 out the door to a few dealers and got the typical, you are crazy reaction.. Am I crazy?

Thanks,

Texas

That doesn't seem to off the wall.It really matter's about how the car's selling in your area.Try to find a lot(if possible)that has a load of Fit's and go from there.I have a SSM Fit with sport's package and got it 17,500 OTD.You really should only pay as close to invoice(not MSRP)as possible, though because it's a hot car(and the way car salemen are)you really are going to have to do your homework.Good luck and keep us updated.

Welcome to the forums.

I have a base auto and paid 16,100 OTD in August 2007.

I looked up the pricing really quick:

MSRP: 14,750

Invoice: 14,221 (according to edmunds.com)
Sales Tax: 1,102 (7.75% in San Diego)
Destination: 635 (I don't think this is taxed)
-----------------
Total: 15,958 (Invoice + tax +destination)

On top of the total, you still must pay the DMV (about $100?).

Maybe you can talk them below Invoice to get a better deal.
Or get Mats / splash guards / accessories thrown in.

Good luck in getting the best deal possible.

Agreed, depends on area

Yea, it really depends on how good the Fit is selling in your area. I think since I am a college student, and it was around two years ago where the Fit wasn't much of a hit until lately, I was able to get a storm silver base auto Fit for $14,300 out of the door, with wireless key entry, splash guards, trunk tray, and all season mats included...of course, this was also through intense bargaining, and luck

Well after speaking with 3 diffrent dealers over the past few days, Im up to 16,500 OTD with no takers. I was quoted 17,300 as the best they could do out the door for a base model automatic....

I will continue to call around but Im starting to think I might have to re-evaluate what type of car I want.. I still have 2 more dealerships in my area to call so maybe I will get a deal, but, Its looking grim!

would you consider a base manual? it would be considerably less (albeit harder to find).

I almost didn't get a Fit to because of the Honda dealership's around here playing game's also.I finally went to the last dealership before I went with another car,and got the SSM(auto)Sport OTD 17500.Just keep trying.I hate the way car dealership's and the auto industry are getting these day's.OVERPRICED/HIGH GAS/EXPENSIVE INSURANCE/SO-SO SERVICE,they should be giving(fair) deal's these day's,but they don't.Good Luck.

Cool Success!

So as I posted yesterday, I was unable to find a sensable deal in Tampa for a base model auto fit. Well I sent an email to the internet sales guy at Kuhn Honda. After asking for an Out the door price and advising that I have been getting some crazy numbers from local dealers he presented 16,100 OTD. I said make it an even 16000 and we are done!

That even included the crappy "dealer fee" that I always fight. I was just so happy to get a price I feel was reasonable for this type of car. 3 other dealers had just laughed in my face and told me I was luck to get one OTD for 17,300! So the moral of this is, this can be had for 16,000 probably cheaper if you really wait and call around. However I did hear a story on the gas prices at recoed highs and probably into 4.00 by summer. So we might have a run on these types of cars.. But then who will be able to afford them when we have no more jobs in America? Well maybe we can use that good old surplus check uncle sam is giving us, right?

So I pick up my Milano Red FIT on Thursday probably. I am very excited!

Thanks for the posts and advice on pricing those that contacted me and posted! Im sure I will have many questions after I get my new baby

Congrats! Way to find the deal! From my experience, phone negotiation is hard to do...The salesperson don't want to open up too much becasue they do not really know how serious you are. But I am glad it worked out.

Be sure to keep on guard until the deal is finalized.

And prepare to do a thorough inspection when you take delivery.

Picked up my Red Honda FIT today from Kuhn Honda in Tampa. Great experiance all around. 16,000 OTD might have gotten an even better deal if I wanted to bargain more.. but I felt good. The Fit in person looks so nice, better than pictures show. I will post a few picks in a few days..

Hey Texas,
Congrats on your purchase of your new Fit. I was the guy who got my Fit for $15,200 out the door. But mine was for a base Fit manual. I bet you could have got it lower if you play your cards right. I played it first by wanting to get a Sport then told them they were in insane for selling it for $17k. I just told them I wanted a base Fit then after 3 hours of haggling buy the Sport for $16k. My wife played along with my strategy and came out pretty good at the end. Anyways, enjoy your new MR Fit. You'll def love it!

Welcome and grats man. With gas prices going up for the summer, I'm guessing dealers wont be negotiating as much for the econo cars like the Fit since demand will probably go up a little. You might have gotten in under the radar. Kudos to you.
