a year with a bunch of problems, should i sell my fit???

well, i hoped i wouldn't actually ever be considering this, but i'm highly considering selling my fit because i'm sick to death of having a nice new car and babying it, and STILL having problems galore, mainly with the paint.

i had to get my bumpers repainted because of the paint peeling issue about 6 months after i had it. then about 2 weeks ago i had to get 2 new tires because one of my stock dunlops had a bubble in it (the car has 20,000 miles). i've also had a weird electrical burning smell and the dealer couldn't find anything wrong.

i got my car washed again today and i find not only a gigantic bunch of scratches and paint chips on the rear left fender, which looks like something had been scraped against it, but i also find a huge chunk of paint missing from the other rear bumper. it literally looks like someone had taken an exacto knife and cut a rectangle of paint away or something, it doesn't look like any kind of road damage or scrape. i'll try to take better pics, the ones i had taken didn't turn out that well.

so what i want to know is: in your opinion, is having a fit worth all these issues? because the point that i'm getting to is that i just want a cheaper beater car that i won't care if it gets messed up. i know trying to keep a DD in really good shape is next to impossible, but this is just getting ridiculous.

sorry for the long rant, i'm just so angry!!!

the paint on this car is trash i will agree but i really whanted a taffy white fit. and wasnt able to get it cuz i got an 08 sooooo i think i would like a champ white one. now instead of selling your fit and going thru all that bs why dont u just get a good custom paint job. not like early sheib or maco like invest 2k in a good paint job and then a) youll have a fit that stands out and b) no more paint issues.
food for thaught

i was actually just thinking that. i'm so mad because the part that i'm having more problems with was the part that was already repainted. so hopefully the dealer fixes it because it's their shoddy work.

i always did want a yellow fit, though

Yellow would be nice. I haven't decided what to do about the paint on mine yet either. I know what you mean about being frustrated, I'm on my second windshield and I owned my Fit less than 6 months now. The first day I had it the windshield got smashed by a rock kicked up on the road. Now I have all sorts of pits and scratches on the front from gravel, but I don't like those hood deflector deals. Maybe I'll just have them clear my car an obscene number of times after I have it touched up.

that's awful about your windshield.

and i've known about the paint issues the whole time i've had the fit, i just didn't expect it to keep being an issue. my problem is i can't afford to even get a clearbra for the car, much less a full paint job.

it's sad to get an "economy" car and have to dump money into it because honda skimped out on necesseties like, i don't know, paint.

i really don't want to turn this into fit-bashing, as i love my car to death, and i think honda is a great car company. that's why this whole situation just pisses me off so much.

just to throw this out there, but a majority of bubbles in tires come from hitting potholes or curbs, so you can't blame that on Honda

How much do you love your Fit? Thats the question, if your not happy with the car and keep having problems with it, id say get rid of it and get something that will make you happy! Yeah the Fit paint does suck really bad, but i love the Fit so much i dont care if i keep having too repaint hahah(Probaly will have to in the future). The thing is, its just piant! You can go get a bottle of touch up at your dealer any day and try to to touch up the rough spots that your unhappy with. Or you can just wait a few years and depending on if you keep your car outside or not, it will probably fade so you can just respray the whole car with better quality paint! There are options, if your just not happy with the paint i say keep it.
The other problem you mentioned id say are bad luck and most likely will not happen again. That stuff could happen on any car!

i guess it really does just boil down to the paint annoying the crap out of me.

i love my fit, it's my first brand new car and i guess i'm still in the honeymoon phase and don't want to see it damaged.

i keep reading about everyone wanting to eventually repaint their fits, i'd really hate to do it a year after having it...maybe i should just make it a future project?

for now, i really don't think i could part with it. if i did, i'd need something with as good or better mpgs, and that leaves the yaris, which i really can't bring myself to do

i donno... today i took my 06legacywgn in to get its 30K mile service done
cause im a lazyarse and didn't want to spend my time buying all the
products, work on it, and going back to recycle the fluids/oils, etc.
in total would've probably taken me 5-6hrs including everything.

it costed me, with a $60off coupon with tax $585. i asked my wife
if it was worth it, and she said MUCH CHEAPER THAN ME BUYING A
NEW CAR.

so no, you should keep it and keep fixing it unless you have so much
money that you can buy a new car every year.

The paint isn't great, but those rock chips etc. will show up regardless of which car you buy. There is no way to prevent rock chips all over the front end except for a clear bra.

that is true.

somehow my hood and front bumper are still perfect, and i keep having problems with the back bumpers. and this new big patch of paint that's gone, i have absolutely no clue how it could've happened. clear bra is an investment for when i have extra monies

Sadly, you're not likely to find better paint without going to a higher end car. The Fit paint is significantly worse than the domestics (actual made in US) that I own/owned, but it's right on par with the paint that was on my specV.

Just plan on a) replacing the car in a few years b) repaint the car when it gets to bad to look at c) live with it.

I plan on treating it as good as I can and, when it get's really, really bad decide then if I want to have it painted or get rid of it.

good point on the domestic paint, both of my parents' '96 and '97 monte carlos are still mint paint-wise.

i do have to get this stuff fixed so they don't rust (in the case of the chips/scratches) and peel (which is basically what the missing patch is going to start doing).

i guess all i can keep doing is babying it as i have been and hope for the best.

Those are the minor problems of owning a car. Even the paint problems. Reason, if the car was old you wouldnt care about the paint so much. Since the car is brand new any scratch and chip is going to be noticed by you.

I know Im like that. My Mx-6 has 1-2yr old paint. Still looks great but it has its flaws now. Nicks on the bumpers and stuff, my rear bumper is even chipping. I dont really care anymore. I did when it was fresh paint.

But yea, the problems you are having are the same problems were having too.

My old Lexus IS300 paint went in a year,so it isn't the price of the car,it's Japanese paint(problem's with 2001 Prelude also).I would trade my Fit in if I had constant paint issue's.Paint to me is VERY important(it's the first thing people see)and I wouldn't spend the money getting it painted, unless keeping it along time.If you want good paint you HAVE to go German(LOOK AT ANY OLD M.B.).My CLK had a $500 charge for paint which I was pissed about, what would they do,give me a car with no paint? But from the first time I cleaned it(and Year's later)it still look's brand new and alway's feel's like I just waxed it.When a bird crap's on it,I had to(Japanese car's)get a rag and soak it,or it would scratch the paint. With my CLK in wipe's right off,no scratching. You might want to drive(or wait)for some Diesel German Car's in a year on two if you want paint that will last for year's.Or you can get the M.B. made Smart car when the Diesel arrive's.Sorry so long.

What a bitch it is to buy a new car and the paint is cheap.
But at least it will be a reliable car, compared to almost any new Mercedes.
I guess you could buy a DeLorean, which has no paint, but that would be even worse than the Merc.
The DeLorean can travel in time, though, and there's a lot to be said for that.
Man, I'm not trying to discount your paint problems. Just going for a little levity in a situation that we all know should be a lot better. My real point is that hey, you have a new Honda. It's a great car. If the paint sucks, at least it's a car worth having.
Some DeLoreans probably don't even travel through time.
