Smile Not as Bad

These pix make the '09 look not quite as futuristic as some earlier photos I saw online. But that is quite a beak hanging off the front end of the car.

The '08s look a lot better, to my eye: tougher, less cutesy, more utilitarian. Ready to rumble (if a 1.5-liter machine can be said to rumble). I think the '08 will be considered a classic someday. I have one on order, in Milano Red, and should be picking it up sometime next month. I wanted to get the '08 because I believe that new gen cars often have problems that will take a year or two of retooling and tweaking to solve. The '08s are tried and true, and should have all the bugs worked out. Plus they have a spare tire, even if it is a puny little doughnut.

Has anyone else read that the '09 Fit will not have a spare tire???

Does that mean run-flats?

My friend has run-flats on her Honda Odyssey - and they are such a pain. Hardly anyone will touch them.

Same here, it is a freaking platypus!
No rear disc's, no center console storage under arm rest, extended front end in NA(forget about JDM body kits yet again!), could care less about lack of glass top - I'd rather have panoramic sunroof that opens, $1500+ NAV option on a car in this class(?!), ......
Who the hell was Honda using in focus group research for a new model?
10 cup holders? what, no port-a-potty? Once I drink beverages stored in all those cup holders, I have to look for a public restroom? It still lacks a fridge, microwave and a stove! Any hidden attached camping tents like on Aztec?!
Man, I just wonted a small driver oriented car with lot of room, disc brakes real dead pedal and far better paint quality than my current Fit! Was that too much to ask for, Honda?
Apparently, yes!
Well at least it appears that rear dampers attach the same way. Maybe front struts, too. Since this new model will be arriving in mass quantities to a dealers near us, maybe Koni will finally make a set we can adapt to our current car.
I think I will stay true JDM, keep modding and save money for a much needed (re)paint job in couple of years.
Thanks a lot Honda! What will take for corporate world to realize that loosing a focus on basics can screw product up.

Wow, I don't understand why Honda did that either.. just too long, especially the front like has been said, and no spare tire? Right..

You're 100% correct. It happens every time a newer model of vehicle is produced especially these days.

One of many examples of this for me personally was circa 2000-2002, in my SE-R modifying days, there was a huge debate between the 1991-1999 B13 and B14 platforms with the SR20DE crew (Senta/200sx) versus the new QR25DE that Nissan began putting in the new B15 Sentra/Sentra SE-R.. man oh man that was crazy!

I believe that the North American market 2009 Fit will have a compact spare tire, unlike the JDM model that substitutes a can of tire sealant in lieu of more cargo space behind the rear seat.

The longer nose does look a bit strange, but then, due to NHTSA safety regulations, Honda had to do that modification.

Exactly, don't blame Honda guys, blame crash test standards. I'll take the longer nose if it means that myself and my passengers will be more protected in a front end collision.

I hope you're right about the '09 having a spare. A lot of people I know here in darkest VT wouldn't buy a car without a spare. One friend who drives his Fit up to north Ontario to go canoeing takes along one of his winter tires, because when he gets out in the boondocks he doesn't want to have to rely on the mini one that comes with the car.

I still like the looks of the "classic Fit" better than the new Jetsons style.

I really don't care for the new look. The hood just kills it for me. I do like the interior though

man man man! i'm loving the way this thing looks! the interior is awesome!

it'd be great if a 1st gen owner also bought a new gen...that way we could dispel the arguments that are fo-sho to come along!

Other than that, 2008 Fit wins in my book.

ok, so i dont think it is that bad. like others, i like my 07 exterior better, and the 09 interior.

my problem is, where is the improvement? theres no special upgrade to me for this car. to me when the fit entered the US, it was easily the car to beat in its class. even more impressive when you consider that it was basically an old model competing against newer designs. Honda really had the opportunity to put the fit completely out of reach.

does anyone know if at least the gas mileage is suppose to have improved?

We can also add arm rest, dead pedal, better seat fabric, more cup holders (if that's your thing), and wheel mounted audio controls to the interior improvements.

A quick request, can anyone going to the NY auto show try and rummage through the back hatch area and see if they can find a spare tire? Thanks!

09 fit

I think they should have brought the same exact car as the japanese counterparts. It looks a lot better plus the panoramic sunroof or whatever they could it will be a seller. I was gonna wait for the 09 thinking it will be the same as the ones in Japan but seeing this model makes me appreciate my bbp
08 fit.
