Goodbye to my FiT

I have had my A/T Fit 08 for less than two months and am just not to happy with it. Thinking about trading it in for a 08 Civic.
First of all the MPG is not that great.
3/6/08 - 930 miles on the car
3/16/08 - 1105miles
3/22/1306 - 1306miles
I fill the tank everytime the tank is more than 3/4 empty.
The town I live in are mostly flat roads besides the small hill that I must drive up to get home. Bring up my next complaint, the performance makes me mad everyday coming home because going at 3000RPM the car is hardly hitting 20mph . I don't know much about cars but I swear my car before the Fit performed much better, a 96 Camry and the MPG was about the same or a bit better.

I love everything else about the car though, it looks great but I just wish the performance and/or MPG was better. I just had to get this out of my head since I am leaving for USMC bootcamp and don't want this to be bugging me the whole time.Maybe I just did't do my research before buying the car. Any comments or suggesstions will be appreciated.

I have the same Fit as you. 3 months now and about 25 mpg.
2008 Fit Sport 5AT completely stock.
Same impressions and same complaints.

The solution- get the base model or sport model in manual transmission, much better performance and mpg.

Or consider other cars later-
The new 2009 Fit Sport- hopefully they do a better job with the new transmission and power is increased.
New and redesigned Toyota Corolla sedan or Toyota Matrix.

I have a 2006 Civic EX 4 Door sedan and it is OK. Not as fun to drive as the Fit but more power and about 30 mpg in mixed driving with Automatic transmission. Smoother riding but not as agile and doesn't carry as much as easily. Good for 4 people and for longer trips than the Fit.

My new 5-speed Sport just accumulated 1,000 miles yesterday and my fuel mileage average since the day I bought it is 38.7 mpg driving mostly rural roads at 60 mph. I am quite pleased, considering the car is so new and will no doubt improve over the next 10k miles. I am, however, still struggling with the seating position, mushy brake pedal and the "dagger" that Honda calls an ignition key, which has created a few painful moments. Have got to get a switchblade key fob!
FWIW,
-Rod

wow, those are very low mpg's.

as MINI-Fit mentioned, 5MT's you get consistently 37-38mpg given
that you dont go crazy on your acceleration. mine's been anywhere
36-38mpg depending on how i drive. my car is also 3months old.

The camry has a bigger engine and doesn't need to rev as high--
I'm in ct and drive only hills- where did u find level ground in ct?
The lowest mpg I've gotten was like 27 but usually right at 30. Even gunning It on the highway.
You might just need to finesse your driving to the fit better----

I drive my car hard about 75% of my tank, the last 25% I slow down so I don't have to go to the gas station as quick. I usually get around 32mpg with the 5 speed.

FWIW I had an '06 Civic coupe automatic and the gas mileage was no where near what I'm getting in the Fit, both cars accelerated the same and the handling on the Civic came no where near as close to what the Fit does. The only thing I liked better about the Civic was the highway driving and highway MPG. But you live in Connecticut, so unless you're commuting to NYC everyday, there's pretty much no where that you can't go by just taking roads instead of highways.

What's your actual MPG? There's no good way to tell how much 3/4 a tank is since gas gauges are never accurate.

As for pickup... there's not much of a way around it without investing lots of money. I hate it sometimes too, especially when I have to crawl up some of the hills here in CT because of the awkwardly spaced gearing. 1st is too short, but when you're climbing a hill in 2nd sometimes it can be agonizingly slow until you hit the powerband around 4-5k rpm. I have a MT so I don't know how the gearing is for AT's on hills. I've just learned to conserve momentum so I can climb hills with just a downshift.

I've got AT and have no prob with the hills - I pass everyone like on the merrit (through new haven ) after the tunnel or any hill.
Sometimes I'll tap down to 4th and when I tap to 3rd - theres PLENTY of power. gets me right up those hills!

also --- since u have had it for a few months you are most likely stuck with it- so rather than piss away your money- on a trade in gone bad- try to like it for now and in a few years trade it in. ---

Nah I'm just talking backroads hills, where you sometimes have to slow down to turn and then go up a hill so you've lost your momentum. On the highway hills are absolutely no problem. The Merritt is a lot of fun in the Fit

The thing is, with all new cars gas mileage gets better over time. So if you gave it a couple thousand more miles i'm pretty sure you'd be hitting 35+ mpg if you drive conservatively. Also the Civic isnt giong to get you that much mroe MPG. Sure power is better but really the Fit can handle higher revs for prolonged periods of time.

Put on some Weapon*R headers and you'll have no problems with hills or passing! Low RPM torque FTW .

i had a 06 civicEX sedan before and it was AT. was a pretty boring ride.
the rear suspension's wandering effect (from the factory) was nothing
worth bragging about either. it felt better than previous civics but
the Fit's generic suspension feels better.

i actually wanted to trade in my car too after the first month...this car is super slow, but i got used to it, and after installing the supa sucka intake, it felt a lil bit better...im not saying it was night and day with the SSI, but it did give me more throttle response, and more low end torque, which made it more bearable
