It's simple...

1) Save a grand
2) Pay off debt as fast as you can... smallest debt to largest debt
3) Save 4-6 months of expenses just in case you get canned from your job
4) Get crappy second car
5) Modify car with money saved from paying off debt.

That's the only way to do it... otherwise you'll have a car that won't auction at the repo sale...

I'm glad you posted this topic - because YES - I'm keeping my Fit stock. I've put 3M tint on the car, which I think will just serve to protect the interior.

Whenever I look at used cars (and I do all the time!!!) - I look for unmodified ones. It's almost impossible to find a Honda CRX, Del Sol, or most Civics that haven't been modified. When you do - they fetch top dollar.

The Honda Fit Sport is an awesome car all on it's own. For the price - I don't think they could have made it any better.

I'm the guy who has quality 3M Window Tint, Mobil-1 Oil, uses toptier gas, cleans the car every weekend, and polishes/waxes it at least once a month. No mods though - not even a sticker. The car pretty much always looks brand-new, yet is driven over 70 miles a day.

Well my MR is stock as far as the engine, tire/ rims,exhaust and filter are concerned, I did invest in the following just for appearance sake.

Mugen Window Visors
Mugen Racing Pedals
Mugen dash plate
Mugen Neck Pillows
Mugen Shoulder Straps
Mugen Door Sills
Mugen Rear View Mirror Cover
OMG - I forgot to add these:
All weather mats
Wheel Locks
Cargo Cover
Cargo liner
Zeta tire valve covers
Zeta license plate screws
Chrome exhaust pipe

I won't do anything to void the warrant and I am happy with the car the way it is as far as performance and especially pleased with the gas milage I am getting on the car.

Cat :x

I will be picking up my brand new '08 MR Sport (manual) tomorrow. I don't plan to mod it at all. I will enjoy it for what it is, maintain it religiously, clean and wax it obsessively, and in five years will have a classic car when everybody else is driving their new-generation Jetsonsmobiles!

imho the car runs pretty well in stock form. if you can live with the
wheel gap and the tucked in wheels, i think it is best you leave it
that way.

I won’t be modifying my fit. I tend to buy my cars stock and keep them stock. Instead of dropping $9K into a fit, I could instead buy a $25000 stock car with great stock performance like maybe a few year old Acura TL, a TSX, RX8, new Mustang, Mazda Speed 3, few year old Sti or Evo. There was all kinds of stuff I could have done to my IS350 but didn’t (other than tinting the windows).

Hmm, sounds like you're not familiar with Honda engines: high revs = sex. It's only slow as molasses if you shift around 2500. I like to shift between 3k and 4k rpm.

i think i'm somewhere in between, kinda like a mod land limbo. to the crazy modders mine is stock, but to the bone stockers mine is crazy. most of my mods tho are straight dealer accecories and i think if you can buy the car from the dealer with all that crap already on there then it should still be considered stock. so carpets, gas caps, wheels, shift knobs whether they were on when you bought it, or if you bought them later from a dealer or whatever it's a honda official part so stock you shall stay.

honda;
mask, gas cap, antennae delete, all season mats, alum shit knob, bump applique, door sills, bronze hfp wheels, & hfp exhaust

jdm;
dc5 rear red emblem, led tails, & coin holder

aftermarket;
5% tint all around w/sun strip, k&n filter, seibon cf mg style grill, mugen visors, skunk2 springs, & silverstar ULTRA bulbs

I agree... when a 2.slow golf can outrun a fit... it's a slow car

HAHA...after tonight...i love my stock fit. I was driving in downtown Chicago with some friends and one of them kept talking crap about how slow my car is...so we were at a stop, and we took off and i beat him...TWICE. Hes got all these mods on his civic coupe too. Hes got full cat back, skunk2 coil-overs, and d16y8 intake manifold...i think that is it, but still. And on top of that, i killed his ego because i am a CHICK in a STOCK FIT. lol great night! :-D

stock is where it's at. you get resale value in tact and you don't get negative attention from racers and cops.

that, and the fit is so refined and snappy stock you're more likely to screw something up if you start throwing parts at it(most people are better at modding than that, but it's easy to mess a car up by throwing parts at it).

if i get a fit i want to keep it stock.

if i get a lease, forGET about it... so not worth it on a lease.

My hubby and I are keeping my Fit pretty much stock.

The only changes we have done are purely cosmetic--floor mats, bumper applique, and window tinting. (Although I believe my hubby went for the tinting as a protective measure because my skin color might make me more susceptible to skin cancer.)

The only mods we may consider at a future date are a change of shocks/struts if needed--but that seems more like a maintenance issue.

dang, all you pessimists. no reason to worry about resale value on a modded fit... just part it out and not only will you fetch top dollar for your newly minted stocker, you also fetch a few bones for your used stuffs. idk 'bout y'all but my glass is half full.

If you are looking to retain resale value stock is the way to go. Sure you may be able to sell a modded Fit for a higher price but your buyer's market is considerably narrowed. However, certain stock-like mods (if you want to call them that, i.e. tint, floor mats, bumper applique...) will increase and hold the value of you Fit for longer and to the widest audience possible.

Why the crap are we talking about selling the Fit? I'm keeping mine till it dies! Who cares about selling value!

^ that above doesnt cover money spent on installs or items ive switched out in the past. this is just currently what i have on the car
I was just wondering if the handleing and performance was drastically increased by adding this 9k? I have a few plans for the fit. But what i'm trying to convice myself is not to mess with the powerplant or anything associated so i can save for a k20 swap when i get to 60,000 miles
:edit: now rims and suspension and body work on the other hand now that i'll be looking into doing sooner. much much sooner
