In my case I am 5'10" so seating is fine but the gas peddle is a little awkward still

Even me, with my short legs, feel the same way. I like to lean back when I drive, so with the Fit, I'm driving with my arms fully outstretched.

Hi All,

I am a Chiropractor in Maine, soon to be fit owner. This is an interesting thread... It sounds like the fit is causing some issues.

For Greek: If you only get the leg pain while driving a distance, and it goes away after driving, and you never get it at any other time, well then
I'd be less worried about your discs. Compression on the piriformis muscle and other small gluteal muscles, can over time irritate the sciatic nerve and give you that pain down the back of your leg. This is very common.
To be safe, anyone getting radiating pain down a leg should get checked out, it can be a herniated disc, an irritated muscle, or it can be an aortic aneurism, an evaluation is the only way to be sure.

If a softer seat helps, its more likely muscular.
Everyone should keep in mind that as many as 50% of all back surgeries lead to more pain and problems than had no surgery been performed. Its important to be a smart consumer, know about all this stuff beforehand.

Good luck!

The front Fit seats are is also way better than the VW "velour" fronts seats from '00-'06.

I find that I need to scoot my rear around every 45 minutes or so in the Fit, for some reason it is a pressure point unlike my other vehicle, and things start to feel a bit numb.

Portable Lumbar Support...

greekdaddy000,

My wife also has problem with the Fit seats, however she found a solution that makes her happy. Check out this inflatable back belt:

Back Relief Belt, $20.00 : Dr William Grosso - Rockland Healthcare

What's nice about this product is that you can place it exactly where you want it, and you can pump in the support to exactly the pressure you need. Also, the cool thing about this belt is that when she goes from one car to another, the belt goes with her. She recommends it to all her friends.

Bringing Thread Back

I also suffer from pain in back of my rt. leg after driving a while. I am 6'1" and 205 lbs.
Has anyone solved this issue of no leg support?
I would consider changing to another seat but I don't want to lose the side air bag.
I drive 1.5 hrs each way to work & back, carpooling with the wife, and the pain in my leg is really hurting like hell. My legs dont hurt in other cars, chairs etc...
Need help??

Is there any other time where your leg may hurt, any other activities that might bother it? Is the pain sharp/electric/achy? how would you describe it? Is your low back also hurting?
First things first I'd experiment with sitting on a comfy pad and see if that helps.

My leg does not seem to bother me any other time. It is a achy burning type of pain. Getting out, walking & streching def helps, but I feel a better seat and/or driving pos would help. I have the seat all the way back. I would like it farther back, but then the wheel would be too far to reach???

The pressure on your gluteal muscles may be doing it, a hard seat can put more pressure on them and lead to pain down the back of the leg. Try stretching by crossing the painful leg over the opposite knee, and then push down on the knee of the crossed leg. That may help relieve the pain, you'll probably feel that as a strong stretch.
If the seat is to blame, a good cushion should help unless the seat is just too small, they are pretty tiny to begin with.

When pushing down on the right side of the seat there is a hard surface a couple of inches down running the length of the seat. It seems as if the seat is too narrow for my legs. My right leg rests on this piece. I am not a huge guy. 6'1"", 205lbs, 36"waist. Seems like there is not enough padding and/or the seat is not wide enough.

If I were you I'd get my doctor or chiropractor to 'diagnose the problem' and write a prescription for a suitable replacement seat from one of the many race or luxury manufacturers.
And go find it, get it and write it off my taxes. I sure wouldn't contuinue to put up with the kind of pain you describe.

The pain has miraculously disapeared...its been a couple of months since the cold weather let up and since then the pain has also let up. I'm still commuting and driving normally with my lowered Fit. Maybe it was just muscle pain.

update

Ok, so this morning I tried sitting on two old seat cushions as a test and it did help. So I am going to look for a good one to buy.
Thanks

OK, after trying to sit on an old seat cushion, it does help with leg pain, but now my lower back is killing me, I am going to try to find a seat cushion that provides lumbar and thigh support. Anyone have experiance with something like that?
