Get wheel locks for base Fit?

After reading this thread, I'm a bit worried about my yet-to-be-delivered Fit.

I know the Sport's 15" wheels were the target in the thread above, but I thought I read that even the non-Sport's 14" wheels are being targeted!? This despite complaints that these wheels are below average quality and too small

I live in a "small" city, should I bother with locking wheel nuts?

You have steel wheels. They are not sought after. The Sport wheels are normally stolen to replace steel wheels on others cars. Youre fine. However, your hubcaps could get stolen. I doubt it though.

Thanks; I was pretty sure I'd be fine, but a few comments about "OEM wheels" in that thread confused me and I wanted to double-check.

Go with your instinct, get yourself a good set of wheel lock nuts. Better safe than sorry. It's not the steel rims that they want, it's the 4 brand new 99.9% tread tires that they're looking for to replace their POS that needs them. However, no matter how protected your car is, if they see what they need they'll find ways to take it.

Hopefully being parked in an underground parking garage overnight, in a fairly well-run apartment (of mostly older people) will work to my advantage.

Or, I just drive it like mad for the first few weeks so the tires aren't "new" anymore

the wheels aren't too small. they're actually perfect. the smaller wheel size allows for more cabin room and quicker acceleration. there's a thread on here somewhere about wheel size, i'm just too lazy to find it.

i'm happy with the 15s. had 17s for a while, went back to 15s. there's a noticeable difference in acceleration.

So... I should worry about Sport owners swiping my smaller 14" tires?

If you get the locks, get the ones where the outside rotates around the nut. I bought a used Miata with wheel locks but no key and asked the dealer to remove them thinking he had a special method. He used an open socket slightly smaller than the lock, lightly hammered it over the lock nut, and removed it - time was less than 10 seconds.
If he knows this I suspect anyone that is interested in steeling the wheels will also know this. While I hate to advertise this, at least it may help those that have lost their lock key.
