Unhappy A reason to not let your friends touch your Fit!

A friend of mine somehow managed to break the rear seat folding lever. Sadly, since I have more than 48,000 miles, the warranty will not cover this. It's going to be $120 to fix with parts and labor and because the dealer did not have the part in stock, I'm driving around with a disassembled, unlatched right back seat. Sucks!

Have you considered trying a salvage yard for such a part? Not sure how many Fits are in the salvage system, but it might be worth trying.

Good idea, but I don't have the time or expertise to fix this myself; I tried taking it apart before taking it to the dealer. Honestly, I don't feel like I'm being ripped off by the dealer, I'm just annoyed at my friend (who is going to help me pay for it- eventually)

That blows man. On the good side $120 isn't that much. Could be worse. The car runs, hope it gets fixed ASAP. Tell your friend they owe you drinks and pizza, and all is good.

Sorry to hear, but damn, how hard did your friend pull the latch? You'd think the magic seat lever on the front seats would break long before the ones in the back (which feel really solid).

which part broke? i know that once i broke the locking mechanism (the handle that makes it recline/fold flat). what had happened was my rim was in the trunk and i tried 2 force the chair back up. Well it latched but got stuck so i had 2 focefully pull that handle up (the handle in #29 in the pic). Next thing u know the latch just goes CLICK and im like S**T!!! The reclining handle broke so i couldn't unlatch it with the handle and the only way was with a screwdriver. Anyways long story short, i ordered part #35 from bernardiparts.com (it's like $3) and all it does is holds the metal rod to the locking plate. It took me 15 minutes to take off the cover, take off the broken piece, put the new one on and put the cover back on. I didn't have to disassemble anything, just the little cover where the latch goes. I BET that's the same piece that broke on mine. If u want, LMK if that's the same problem ur having (where the handle doesn't latch) and i'll do a mini writeup on how 2 fix that for ya. Don't pay outstanding dealer prices.

Thank you so much for the advice; I'll be sure to think of bernardiparts if I have any further problems. Unfortunately I already had the dealer fix it this time.... I think that my friend pulled to hard on the recline lever while sitting in the seat; I think my situation is the same as what happened to your car.

Does the rear seats recline?

Does the rear seats recline?
Seriously, how? Do they go back more into the trunk space?

Thanks in advance

I wish. They do not fully recline, but they will go back just a little so that you can put the seats in Dirty Mode. I mean Refresh Mode, or whatever they call it. (For me, it's Let A Teenager Sleep While I Drive Mode.)

I second all of this bs. My friend started my car, stalled, went over a curb, and I had to replace the bumper, lip, splash shield, and a lot of bolts
