4 click gas cap

I was flipping thru the Channels yesterday and something caught my eye.
Gas saving expert whoever will show us how to save some gas
On Faux News of all channels

This chick said that when you fill up you should close your gas cap and keep turning until it has clicked four times.
She said some absurd number of gallons of fas evaporated last year bec of improperly closed gas caps (the number was in the tens of millions)

Anyone think four clicks might damage the plug thing?
Anyone have comments?

As fuel costs head North, you see more and more goofy stuff like this. I assure you after you here the 1st click the actual sealing part of the cap does not move at all and the tank is totally sealed less the evap vent.

Clicking it 3 more times is a total waste of time and may hurt you gas cap over time.

The clicks are just to insure that the cap is fully tightened but not over tightened. One click or 100 clicks, no difference.

Gas caps have ratchet mechanisms that won't allow them to be overtightened- you can't break 'em.

And the ratchets are quite different in terms of the size and spacing of their teeth. In my Subarus, 4 'clicks' is about 1/10th of a full rotation of the cap; the things click so often it almost sounds like a buzz! In the Fit the 'clicks' are much, much further apart; I'm lucky if I get two when I tighten the cap.

Yet another shining piece of evidence that 'blanket statements suck'.

cars nowdays have an EVAP system.... if you had ANY air escaping out form the gas cap you would have a check engine light on.

Clearly the thing to do is find someone who doesn't click 4 times, and collect their evaporating gas.
