Stick with 93 Accord or Get 08 Fit Sport??
Stick with 93 Accord or Get 08 Fit Sport??
After reading this post below
I'm hating you right now But you are sooo correct.
I'm soo close to getting a fit. I was going to sell my 93 accord and my mom going to match that price and put down for my car.
I was going to ask my brother's best friend at honda and see if he can get me invoice price of Fit Sport M/T
But then this post came along and Made me sit here for 30min calculating my Income and Expense with Fit or Accord
and come to that Fit will take about extra $110 out of my pocket every month. I can afford that but Will have less money to do anything else
The fit is No GO??
Should I stick to my Car for now or Get Honda Fit? There is nothing wrong with my car. I'm only getting 20MPG in NYC that why i wanted a FIT
It's good that your Toyota is paid off. So many people these days are making emotional decisions based on the gas prices (and housing situations), and not taking into consideration what it's really costing them to trade in their car for something that gets better gas mileage. This is a good read:

One of the most quoted pieces from the article:
"To flip this around, if you asked, "What could I do to waste as much money as possible on a car?" My answer would be to buy new, finance it longer than you plan to keep the car, and then trade it in on another new car. This is exactly what we’re cautioning you against now."
I know you're not in this boat, but I know there are a lot of folks who are. I was, and decided to bite the bullet, trade down, and pay the damn thing off.

and if you cannot get the hook up?
if it is, is the Fit worth an 110 a month?
Is it worth no starbucks and movies?
coffee=4.25x6days a week = 25.5
25.5x4weeks = 102 a month

movies are like 13 bucks now in manhattan? (I don't know
)or the bar
$30 (one night a week) x 4 weeks=120

video games?
$50 per game x2 a month $100

I did the same thing, i cannot afford the extra money spending, and still have somewhat of a life. I myself am waiting for a pay raise and/or more hours, and still trying for the second job.
(I also started saving change for starbucks and do not go to bars and beat games and trade in for used ones)
good luck with you decision. I hope you get the fit soon. if not you can join the fitless crew
if you are not making payments on your accord, then even from a fuel efficient standpoint, the new fit makes no sense.
i would be more than happy to drive something that only averaged around 24 mpg if i had no car payment. i'd be in a better financial situation.
save your dough and drop an h22 in that bad boy.

This same reason is what kept me from changing my Jeep for the last two years... no payment with a lousy 14-15 mpg was still a good deal. It wasn't until this year when there multiple things to fix that had some high dollars attached (tranny, A/C, Exhaust, and some unknowns) If it was purely an economical decision...I could have fixed the Jeep and kept buying gas. But there's risk in keep dumping money to keep a car running good and you could have just had a new car for nearly the same amount. Plus from the Jeep to the Fit is a great disparity in mileage, my fuel bill less than half...that is a chunk of change.
Unless you need/really really want the Fit... start putting that $110 away for down payment for when you do need it. (maybe get to $2K and start e-trading and turn it into $20K, then go get your fit
)

Is just lately i been fixing my accord. And my main mechanic just sold his shop and I dont have anyone i trust to take it to. Right now my Accord is running SUPERB!! that after i fixed. I'm afraid that down the line there will be more problem and I don't have my trusty mechanic anymore.
The reason why i want to get a new honda fit also. My brother's friend is Honda Mechanic. If something wrong he can just take my car and inspect and do whatever he need to do to it. Because the car under warranty my repair expense will go down.
I avg my accord about 250-300/yr with Oil Change and Little fix here and there. But with Honda Fit it would just be Oil Change only..... and the rest are covered by warranty and my brother's friend
and another reason why i want a fit is because I LOVE THAT F****** Car!! The fit is GO hehe
$.21 / mile with Accord * 250 mile/week = $52.5 /week * 4 = $210 + 0 car payment
$.14 / mile with Fit * 250 mile/week = $35/week * 4 = $140 + $230 car payment
Accord = $210 / month + 138 insurance = 348
Fit = $370 /month + 138 insurance = 508
Insurance will be under my mom name and Her car will be under my name (which est quote give me the same payment as my accord)

Let me share my story.
I bought a Kia Rondo last year, financed for $20,900. It's a nice car, and drove well, and was very comfortable. But I did not take into account the true gas cost, as well as maintainance costs less-than-desirable resale value.
I traded it in for a Honda Fit last month. I was able to get a great price on the Fit, but the dealer would only give me $12,000 trade in on the Rondo. LEss than I wanted, but it still fell within acceptance. Having still owed $19,000 on the loan, the prospect was sobering, but I felt confident; by my calculations, the maintenance and fuel costs would break even after about three years. I procured financing with a downpayment, the old loan was paid off, and I now drive the Fit.
I know I lost money on the deal, and it will hurt for a while. But in the long term, I feel I made the right decision. I have a better, more reliable car, with higher resale value, better fuel economy (almost twice that of the Kia), lower maintenance, and I love the comments I get on it ("Is that a hybrid?"). So in the short term, I definatley got hosed. But in the long-term, I feel better about my decision. I feel that I was able to correct an error I made a year ago, before it was too late.
