I fit 7 people in my Fit

I took 6 passengers to a meeting this past weekend. One in the passenger seat, 4 in the back row, and 1 sitting in the trunk. They all commented that they were quite comfortably seated. It helps that we're all Asian =) But then again that's why we were willing to squeeze to save on gas money in the first place =P

As I went over bumps though, I kept hearing some grating noises. I take it the suspension in the rear is too soft and I was rubbing my rear tires? Guess the 180lb college student back there is more than the trunk was designed to handle? Will getting coilovers help with that or is there some inherent design issue with the rear suspension? Not that I plan to do this on a regular basis but, just curious =)

I fit 11 once in my 90 Civic HB in HS. Never underestimate the freeloading tendencies of those who don't have a car (or the naivete of an 11th grader trying to be nice to tennis bunnies ).

yeah, coilovers is a must for me if i want people in the rear.

I got 13 people in my 96 Ford Escort back in college

There was a house party and I was the only one sober enough to drive back at 7 AM (no sleep). We stacked people like Lincoln logs.

wow, that's too much weight. your tires might look fine now, but it
might rupture later on if you were using stockers.

I just read some guys long rant about how he's disappointed that this car can hold so much stuff in it but has only a 700 lb weight capacity, and I kind of agree with that after this experience. So, will coilovers help with that? Or do coilovers only help with handling?

You got a photo of that?
BTW if you're gonna do that often see the suspension section for better load shocks.
And yes the rear was dragging something. Putting 7 Asians in a Fit is nothing. I put 3 250 lb football players in mine; course I have to add air to the Monroes or the bumper wouild drag.

It's crazy that these size cars (all sub-compacts) are only rated at 700 lbs when it is also described as "5-passenger" + luggage. So without luggage, the average weight of each passenger would only be 140 lb I weigh 245 myself. Five of me would which could easily fit into a Fit equals 1225 lbs and I'm not even overweight (6'1" and 36" waist).

The maximum weight for a vehicle is the sum of load ratings of the tires, mainly 4x1155lb or 4600lb. The maximum load then is the maximum weight less the fully gassed Fit or 4600 - 2600 lb = 2000 lb. The fact that Honda reduced it to 700 lb is likely due to 2 reasons: 1. lawyers, and 2. the rear springs are soft in order to get a better ride in USA.
I know when we loaded our crew (5 big guys -1100 lb + 200 lb tools) in the Fit the rear end sank to the bump stops. Only by installing Monroe MA-811 AirLifts did we solve that problem. See the suspension and Brakes section for details and photos. Once we did that we carry 5 people plus luggage easily.
Obviously the 5 passenger mode is Asian stature. And light duty since the Fit is only a commuter car.

I don't think I'd want to see 2000 lbs in a Fit, lol. The suspension would bottom out even before this amount of weight. It's totally a suspension issue but if you were to maximize payload, you'd have the ride quality of a go-kart.

haha that's great.
i should take out the rear seats too, so all my friends without cars would stop bothering me to take them places.

i fit 9 in my fit before. i just wanted to see how many people would fit. that would be way to scary to drive lol. 2 in the front passenger seat, 4 in the rear bench seat, and 2 in the back, and me as the driver. hah. all my friends are short though
