Talking does it hurt your mpgs

does it hurt your gas mileage to have cruise control engaged while cruising at speeds in which Vtec is open?

Nope. Cruise will help. Having it in VTEC while cruising at highway speeds doesn't really effect gas consumption all that much.

(Ooh! and another Memphian!)

That sounds about right. It's about 380 miles there. I got 37.9mpg when I went to Nashville and back. If I had filled up completely before leaving (I already had 40 miles on the tank), then I'm pretty sure I would have been able to get to Nashville and back on one tank =)

Oh, highway speed makes a big difference in MPG. You'll be in VTEC either way, but I would try to stay between 65mph and 70mph. When I went to Nashville, I cruised at 75mph to keep up with traffic. You may have to, too. But if you get chances to, do cruise at 65-70mph. Maybe you'll hit the 40mpg mark!

Talking 44.3 MPG on a trip to Knoxville

I got my highest MPG tank ever on a trip there.

But I came from the east of there, in NC.

I kept my cruise between 65-69 the whole way, with the A/C on.

It included about 20 mins of idling in stop-n-go traffic too!

Hey man, I just made my first trip from Knoxville to Memphis in my 2008 SSM M/T. I got all the way there on 1 tank. I averaged 41.7 mile mpg. Driving 65-80 the whole way. I was using ac on 2-3 the whole way.

keep in mind if you are AT you might not get as good of gas mileage on your trip.

What RPM does Vtec engage on the US fits, and also what is the earliest one should be able to safely rev that high on a car with 0 miles for example?

i thought vtec on the fit was e vtec(the vtec for good gas mileage)...youre in vtec pretty much all the time until you get in high rpms.

break-in period is 600 miles.

VTEC will engage between 2200 and 3400 RPM, it all depends on throttle position.

Oh okay, nothing like the good ol B series motors. Didn't expect that as this car was made for fuel mileage, not track performance, however it does hang well in the corners compared to a lot of other model hondas I have driven..stock.

Just watch out for uphill situations when using cruise control. It likes to surge the RPM when going uphill. But on leveled ground, it does a good job of holding the throttle still. Also, it seems like the ignition system works better with cruise control on leveled grounds.

Also, cruise control is used for cruising, not accelerating so keep in mind that if you're under the speed you desire, cruise control will open throttle to desired speed. But you can use the cruise control to accelerat/decelerate 1 mph at a time using acc/dec buttons after reseting the cruise speed.
