Bad scratch on my new Fit

I parallel parked this weekend when we were out with another couple. I was pulling out, was told by the rear passenger side rider that I had plenty of room and SCRATCH. There are a few scrapes (longest is about 2 feet long) on the panel below the passenger doors (I have the Sport model). These are clear through the paint to the metal.

I checked in with the dealership where I got my Fit (37 days ago) and it will be $392 to replace and install that part and the clips that hold it on.

I am being told to "live with it", but it's really bothering me. I am going to get another price from the place that is applying the Rok Blok on Friday and see if there's a better quote.

I just wanted to share with other people who would care.

On the bright side, I went to the "new car owner" seminar at the dealership last night and ended up with 3 coupons for free oil changes, so at least I am saving that $100.

Sigh . . .

ouch... so its just the lower sideskirt? Tell the bodyshop you have a quote for $300 and ask if they can beat it.. Will save you almost $100 if they say yes... Then you call another bodyshop and say I have a quote for $xxx.xx if they will beat it works pretty good.

Relying on others

Rule #1 in, never loan your car out! This includes having someone else drive it for you from the passenger seat.
As long as you are a car enthusiast this rule applies.
As an analogy, would you loan your spouse out??
Think about it!

That would depend on if you meant husband #1 (yes), husband #2 (yes, but he's dead) or husband #3 (definitely NOT).

And never again will I rely on anyone else.

On the bright side, my son's friend is going to handle this much more at a substantial discount from the dealer quote.

Odds are you wont need to replace the clips, unless they got smashed. But if we have a meet soon you gotta come out with us.

Well lets start throwing out some dates that work for everyone. I'm pretty much booked the rest of this month, and theres a couple weekends in August that don't work for me. I'll have to figure those days out.

We might be up for a meet. Keep in mind DH is 73 and a retired teacher, but he's also English and runs marathons, so not your typical Grandpa. He drives a 1999 BMW M Roadster (currently being restored by our son in North Carolina).

I am 51 and still working and LOVE my Fit. Husband wants to try touch-up paint on the scratch before we have the piece replaced. If it wasn't bright red, it probably wouldn't look quite so bad. But right now it looks BAD.

We'd love to meet your parents and grandparents since you guys all seem so freaking YOUNG.
