A source on the TOV forum released new information about the specifications for the 2006 Honda Fit.

The base and "S" trim level Fits will probably look like the cars listed below

Base Model

Based on a teaser video sent to Honda representatives the following trim levels were announced:
*Its going to use a 1.5 Liter with 105 HP
*Mileage rated at 32/37
*Magic seats were mentioned and demonstrated
*No CVT trans, it will use a 5 speed automatic, but still retains paddle shifters.
*Base and “S” trim levels will be offered, a fully optioned "S" trim Fit should run $15K.<o
></o
>
American Honda has not confirmed the details listed above but the source believes they are very reliable.<o
></o
>
If this information is correct, the fuel economy numbers and omission of the 7 speed CVT transmission may be a disappointment to US and Canadian consumers expecting the economy and performance of similarly optioned cars sold in Asian and European markets.

Ok, I am blind. They are on the fenders on the base, and the mirrors on the S. Hope the are there in production. I think they are a cheap and easy safety addition. A lot of people disagreed with the chmsl when it first appeared.
Actually, I still think Honda will offer a CVT automatic, but probably not the CVT-7 automatic, for cost reasons. In short, the car will be very much like the Mexican-market model, with five-speed manual and CVT automatic matched to the L15A VTEC engine.
The only thing that still puzzles me is that if it's going to be so much like the Mexican car than why aren't we getting the Brazil built model like them?
Honda seems to be going to alott of trouble to import a car from Japan if it's going to be mostly the same as the exsisting model from this side of the hemisphere...???

I agree.
The rumored specs do look like Fit/Jazz cars sold in other markets and it puzzles me why Honda is keeping quiet about the final configurations for the US and Canadian markets. Maybe they are waiting as late as possible so Nissan and Toyota will not be able to counter this “new” feature before their cars are introduced to the US.

Some people might like the extra sportiness of the Fit Sport, but it should get better miles per gallon than 32/37. The original fit spec was close to 34/48 mpg. The base Fit with the 1.3 should get even better miles per gallon( 45/58 ), but Honda well probably lower the mpg on that car as well. Honda is too concerned about NEW models eating into the sells of their OTHER models, such as the 2006 honda civic si, and civic HYBRIDS. I was going to buy a Honda Fit next year when it comes in because it was a real gas saver, but now that Honda wants to play games and lower the mpg I will definitely not buy it. I now own my 5th Honda, and have been a faithful Honda owner, but maybe it's time to change to Toyota or another competitor if they offer better specs. It will definitely be a big disappointment for all the Honda loyalists who have been waiting for this car.
Nov 22, 2005: As I was on my home, I saw this small, svelte looking little 4 door on the back of a flat bed truck heading north up Hwy 14 here in CA. As I pulled closer, I could clearly see what it was. It was a Honda Fit. Siver in color. Not disguised in any way, all the badges in place, and looking fully ready for the showroom floor. The car looked almost exactly like the car on the top picture in this post. So it must have been a base model. It is definitely a cool car. I can't wait to see one at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show in January. With the car going on sale in the spring, I'm sure they will introduce the car to the public then.
other foreign models
hey gsbmp , i bought a toyota truck for my boat since honda didnt offer a decent towing vehicle at the time. dont go there ,its not the same as a honda. surporisingly not the same fit and finish ,quality or even reliability. dont go there
We should form picket lines in front of all the Honda Dealers if the stupid US honda markets lower the MPG's so that the new fit won't eat into the sells of their civic, civic SI, and hybrid models. They should give us the same car or better than the one in Japan since we had to wait forever to get it here in the first place, but they want to down grade it and expect stupid americans to be happy with it. No way! We should boy cott Honda until they bring over the real fit! The one thats economical and has better engine and transmission.
Its a bit of a doubled edge sword isn't it. Honda has to put all sorts of crap on and in the Jazz for the US market that adds weight because of your regulators and then you complain about the fuel economy.
Blame those that cause the problem not a company that has to bust its ass to jump through hoops that don't exist in the rest of the world to modify a perfectly good car which is a huge risk to sell in a truck market. Most other companies would just pack up their bat and ball and go home.
The Jazz might sell ok in the Californian market where they have an appreciation for such things but what about the rest of the US.
The 5 speed auto transmission is a crock. Info from an unconfirmed unreliable source. When the supposed source was pressed for more info they couldn't provide jack. If Honda hasn't mated a 5 speed auto to the Jazz anywhere in the world or even in any testing how are they magically going to start selling such an untested / yet developed config in the US. Bull smells stronger than horse or cow crap.
