Should I get a sport or not?
hey all this is my first post here and ever since I heard that the US is releasing the Fit I've been looking for info about them because I am going to buy one. Now I was looking over the proposed specs and the only real difference between the sport and base are the sound system, styling kit and the shiftible auto.
Now my orignal plan was to get a sport but seeing that the price may be a bit higher then what I can afford (I'm a 17yr old high school seinor that works for honda and leaving for school this summer) the base is looking more and more tempting. 2 of the 3 color combos that I was looking at come in the base which are Vivid blue/black and storm silver/black.
From a tuner's standpoint I'd say the base is a better choice just becasue i plan on upgrading the wheels and maybe minor areo parts and also i can take the money i save by not getting the sport and put that into other parts (Mugen and Spoon parts that is
). So Base or Sport? I'm still waiting for the final price but i'm leaning tward the base. eather of them is a hell of a step up from my 90 CRX HF... I'm just loosing a lot of the "fun to drive" factor.
Oh one more thing.. to the overseas Fit owners, what would you recomend changing on a Fit to make it trackible? If I have to sell my CRX I'm going to run the Integra Type-R expo in the Fit so i'd like to be prepaired. Thanks for all the help and thanks for a wonderfull site!!!

I am going to get the sport. I like the extras that are on it, especially that the body kit is already there and painted to the same standard as the rest of the car. Then again, I am 44, have a job, a family, and prefer to spend my modification money on my motorcycle. Were I in your shoes, with your intentions, I would probably opt for the base. There is zero mechanical difference, and you have some $$ left over for mods.

It's going to boil down to the price difference for me: will the better stereo, cruise control, and foglights be worth the money? I don't care about the bodykit so much and already have plans to change the wheels.
Also the paddle shift AT, better interior trim, and possible suspension changes. Yes I said it and I can because when I looked under the sample cars at NAIAS there seemed to be different anti-roll bars and bushings on the Sport model and I'll bet there's going to be at least a minor suspension difference between the 2 if these examples were a true indication.
Im personally gonna swap out the suspension/wheels/and stick on a front lip, so for me im getting the base.
I do like the stereo, but thats it. if i can get a base with a stick for around 13.5, that would rock. (or lower cuz its So cal)

Neither, You have the rest of your life to pay car payments, I would stick with the CRX while your in school. Besides, why would you want to sell a CRX? Fit's are nice, but to unload a CRX for one...I don't know.

also, if your going to HPDE a brand new car, you have to be able to write it off

sport looks worth it
Here is how I value the diffs that favor the sport for me:
color choice is metallic orange (n/a on base): $300 (I want bright to be safer)
alloy wheels: $400 (assuming lighter wheels improve milage)
remote entry: $240 (much more useful than power windows IMO)
fog lights: $150 (we do get fog here a lot)
underbody spoilers: $0 (what are they for? to look snazzy? no thanks
)
rear spoiler: $ 50 (dont care but maybe, not sure)
cruise control: $200 (sure I always use it if/when available)
leather steering wheel: $25 (dont really care who knows)
upgraded stereo, equalizer, mp3 (I assume from CDRs),
aux input: $300 (nice to have all these goodies)
AT extras like paddles: n/a (getting a 5-speed)
not having to haggle for all of these individually: priceless
So the total value to me: around $1665
and the additional cost (an estimate): $1900
close enough for me

coming from what I would be willing to pay if they were offerred separately "how I value" as I said. Of course if they were offerred separately for the base it would be great to pick and choose - but I did that back in 1984 for our first Honda - an Accord, adding AC and other options brought the total to MORE than the EX trim, plus NO power steering, UGH!
