Paddle shifters are equipped on every 5AT Sport. The Fit Sport 5MT will not have them.

They allow you to control upshifting or downshifting, w/o using a clutch. The transmission is still an automatic; there is still a torque convertor. It's mainly a gimmick, but it's still a nice feature to have.

If you dont want to use the paddle shifters, you dont have to. The Fit Sport 5AT will have a fully automatic mode as well.

the paddle shift is honda cvt, it doesn't have a torque converter, or so to speak, it uses a variable diameter pulley to change the diff gear ratio without the need press the clutch. it's info is on http://asia.vtec.net/Reviews/JazzVtec/index.html .... enjoy

and it still have the choice between full automatic or sport which is cvt, i dunno about the USDM version though, the info i have is from malaysia

the usdm version will have a US exclusive 5at that will feature the paddle shifters... it's still a auto with a tourqe converter but you basicly just tell the TCU when to shift when your in sport mode. it's kinda cool and our 02 GTI has it but i still find it poinless. just my .02 tho, for someone handicaped i think it's a awsome idea and i have a friend that would love to have this in his AT WRX with hand controls

I think for sheer acccelation the standard 5 AT speed will show it's true colors over the CVT. Also I'll bet a potential longivity issue is being addressed before the Fit ever even hits the road in N.A.
We drive cars harder than ANYONE else!

I doubt that. You obviously haven't been to Europe or Japan.

Per State Farm Insurance statistics:
For prolonged speed and distance (other than Autobaun) the U.S. has more miles of highspeed highway than anywhere else in the world - also we average the longest non - mass transit commute miles of any nation.

Highway miles are much less wear and tear on a car then city miles, especially stop and go traffic.

I think there's a perception among the auto manufacturers that Americans are stupid and not ready for a transmission that sounds like a city bus.
