07-08 vs 09?

Im looking at buying a fit in the near future and have been looking around. Ive been reading through this site trying to see what people think between the 07-08 and 09.

I have test driven an 09, but its hard to find any 08's here (anyone selling them have AT). I liked the feel of the 09, but was wondering if there is a noticeable difference between the two engines. Or anything else that stands out.

I was also wondering if there is a difference between the drivers seat, Im about 5'2'' and found I was reaching a bit for the clutch can the pedals be adjusted or is the 08 model any different height wise with the different interior?

Thanks!

i have an 07 AT and i love mine. im not too fond of the 09's althought ive never really driven one so i couldnt tell you how the two engines compare. i have heard though that the 09's are heavier and more sluggish than then 07's/08's.

the 09's remind me of a space ship too though, which is why i'd never drive it!

good luck :]

I was under the impression from the dealer that the 09 is faster as it has vtec - it will accelerate faster according to him... So this really isnt the case?

i'm not sure which one is faster really. But salesmen/saleswomen often don't know what they're talking about. they just want you to buy (generally speaking of course). there are some who do study their products, but the majority just talk out of their @sses and make stuff up. if you research a car and go check it out at the dealership, you already know as much as the saleperson, if not more. just be careful when talking to them and take everything they say with a grain of salt.

the 09's do have a bit more power, but are a bit heavyer, hence the slower speed, as i said im not positive about it, but from what i have read they are a bit slower. both do have VTEC though i belive the 09 is i-VTEC where as the 07-08 is SOHC VTEC if you want honest answers from a honda salesman contact JDM Chris... he sells Fits, knows a ton, and will give you honest answers... hes a great asset to our beloved Fitfreak

The thing that might help with an '09 (I don't think the '08 have this) is the telescoping steering. You can push the wheel in so that you are a safer distance from the wheel (airbag) and can still reach the pedals safely. My wife is 5'2" and we did this in our '09 right away.

It all boils down to personal taste and what is available.

True the '09s tested slower, but it was mainly on the 0-60 mph test. I think the difference wasn't enough that normal drivers would even notice, but yes it is because the '09 is heavier. But the reason it is heavier is they made the car a few inches bigger and redesigned the interior to make it feel more roomy. So what's more important? A bigger interior or a half second faster when going 0-60?

The '09s have more creature comforts than the '08s. You have more cup holders, more adjustable seats, a steering wheel that telescopes, and several different options like the GPS. The trick here is to see which one you feel more comfy in. I am fine with my '08s interior and don't have to adjust anything, but then I am 5'10" and have always driven this size car.

Then there is the outside styling. The '09 is more modern, edgy, and has a futuristic feel. The '07-'08s look friendlier, almost as if you crossed a VW Bug with a Japanese sports car. The 09s have slanty cat eyes while the 07-08s have round bug or owl eyes. The preference on appearance is a matter of taste. Which one suits you?

You will find here we are divided between the older model owners and the new ones, but the thing is we all love our cars. You can't go wrong with a Fit! Any year of the 3 has great looking models that get amazing gas mileage, and offer a ton of bang for the buck!
