How Low Will Gas Go?
You have to identify who the originator of this quote was:
"Who are you who are so wise in the ways of science?"
You get one rep point if you get it right. Hint: It's from a movie

However, I am not King of the Britons. In fact, I thought the Britons were an autonomous collective.
That is correct! Of course!
There are a few ways to interpret this. One is that extrapolation beyond a year or two isn't reliable. Another is that market forces (the drivers in the driven harmonic oscillator) conspire to make alternatives to gasoline so attractive and viable that the price of gasoline drops to zero. I'd bet on the former, but I'd like it to be the latter.
I'll try to put up the plot this evening.

The other day I heard Opec is determined to get the price of oil back up to $75 a barrel. The Saudis will cut production to get that but Iran and venezuela really cant because their economies were in trouble last year when things are good. Who knows.
I'd kill about right now to get a rep point, I'm not kidding LOL

Here's the plot of the price of gas in dollars per gallon form 1979 to date:

Sorry about the size of the plot.
I got the older data from a web site (something like uselessinfo.com or the like, the site also had some of the CPI analysis which I followed) and the data from about 2001 on is what I've recorded.
As I mentioned above, the fit doesn't do the recent fluctuations too well, but the general trends are well represented. If one were paranoid or a conspiracy theorist, one might look at the increase in price coinciding with the beginning of the Bush Administration and suspect some market manipulation. Or not.
Illogically extrapolating to 2012 shows us that gas will be free by then. Most probably because everyone will be driving electric cars or using the transporters that are developed resulting from the Obama Administration's energy independence programs. Or not.
