Three models for USA?

Stopped by my dealer in Walnut Creek California today to see when they expected to get "Fit's-in". They have three on order, insisting that each one is a different model! I know dealers don't always have the correct "scoop", but the sales manager seemed confident.

Could it be that we may get a "middle model" with most of the sport equipment sans the "teenager in heat" plastic?

Nothing else I have seen supports this notion, but here's hoping.

Canada is getting 3 models, but everything that's out there points to only 2 in the US.

if the civic can have a lx dx and ex which are
just contrived 'extras' packages, why can't
the fit?

Canada's Sport is the same as the US, LX is the same as the US base, and DX lacks air conditioning and power windows/locks.

The dealer may be counting manual and automatic transmissions as different models.

I would have to agree with "kps". All that I have heard is 2 models for the US.

I don't think anyone knows about the price yet. There is that very general sales figure on the Honda USA website. It's listed as starting between $13000-14000 USD. I'm unsure of the conversion to Canadian currency. However, it should be noted that this figure is only indicative of the base-model. If you're interested in the sport, that will likely add a few thousand to the cost. Hope this helps!

Nothing but speculation. Pricing is supposed to be released April 1. My guess, based on the US estimate, is somewhere under $15/$17/$19K for the three models here, or about the same as a similarly equipped Toyota.

I would guess the dealership ordered a base model, a Sport model with the 5AT, and a Sport model with 5MT.

The lies of some of these salespeople is stunning. Is there a way to publish the dealers who tell us lies and boycott them. Or report them to Honda.

You are right, I work for a Honda dealership. We were told from Honda that our initial shipments would include 1 base 5 speed manual, 1 sport 5 speed manual and 1 sport 5 speed automatic. Currently we have no idea what colors these car will be. Our next shipment, which we do not have a build date, after our 1st allocation included just 1 sport trim level. Which I have on reserve for myself.

o wow... i didn't realize how short the supply would be... should i be concerned about not being able to find the FIT of my choice when it first comes out? i really need the car by May... should i think about reserving one well in advance of april's release date?

Walnut Creek Dealer called back today, the order is now for five cars - one a 5 speed manual, the other 4 all automatics - all in sport trim - needless to say I will pass!

I don't think there will be a shortage. Just that until they are here, they aren't. May looks good. I would register your interest to give the dealer an idea of what to order. If they jerk you around go to another dealer.

Dealers that are claiming the Fit will be in short supply is full of shit. Initially they are getting 3 or 5 or whatever in their FIRST shipment but a week later, they will arrive by the boatload.

Unlike most here, I'm not pre-ordering. Why? The Fit is an entry level car and its ridiculous to pay full MSRP just so you can say you had it a week sooner. When its out, I'm just going to the dealer, negotiate for a Sport in Orange for invoice.

Well I made a deposit in the late fall of 2001 on the new 2002 CRV and got locked in at MSRP. For almost an entire year after the new model release the same area dealer was getting OVER MSRP on the same vehicle...
and they're issue was limited supply of a Japanese produced model.

If they sell the Fit for more than MSRP, they can keep it.
I do want a Fit, but not that badly.
