Newbie here, first Fit
its little paddles around the steering wheel used to up or down shift... like in F1 cars, high end ferrari and what not. the ones in the fir are not true paddle shifters, the ones in ferrari and F! cars have a clutch that a computer controls so it is still considered a manual tranny, the ones in the fit are like tiptronic automatic trannys... its still an auto, has a torque converter, no clutch but u can still select gears....

The Sport Fit has a Sport Mode of shifting where you can shift without the clutch...You grip either side of the steering wheel where there is a + paddle and a - paddle...you can shift up or downshift. You can do this from "D" as well, but the car takes back over for you if you forget to shift (can be handy).
I have a Sport but almost never shift it myself...I forget it's there. But it can be fun to have. It's like you just over-ride the auto transmission with the paddles.
