New to Fit

I do not currently own a fit but after seeing the amusing commercials about it and wanting something new (I drive a 95 BMW 318Ti that is looking pretty rough) I figured "why not the fit?" They are pretty aggresive looking for a tiny car, a hatchback which of course I am partial to, and since it is a Honda it has a HUGE aftermarket support. So convince me to buy a Fit. Use your best excuses. "Hit me with your best shot."

How bout that

Tack on good FE and fun driving qualities and you're set.

lol, good points. Do all Sport model auto's have paddle shift? Would you suggest that or manual? I have ALWAYS wanted a paddle shifter but LOVE having a manual and I know they will get better gas mileage.

you will regret getting the auto.

just save up 20 grand buy an 08 fit and contact aj-racing.com for a turbo, coils and racing tires and you have a semi built race car that people will still ask "is that a hybrid?"

take one for a test drive and you will be sold... its a great car and fun to drive... get the MT tho... the AT paddles are not great its still an auto gear box with tiptronic shifting... not like in the M3 where its a clutchless manual...

I am probably gonna test drive one next weekend.

Kyler, why would you suggest getting a brand new one? What are the major selling points in getting an '08 compared to an '07 or older?

i never said a new one. 08, 07, 06 are all the same gd3 chassis with great aftermarket support.
09 is a ge8 chassis with no aftermarket support yet.
im rocking an 08 so i just thought i would recommend it.

gotcha. I didn't plan on getting a brand new one anyways. I have seen used ones around here for around 14K +/- 1 or 2K.

if you get a fit, don't expect it to ride/drive like your bmw. alot of new idiots who get a fit after driving much more expensive cars complain too damn much. makes you just want to drop kick them.

Oh trust me, anything would ride better than my car! Handle, probably not, but I have needed new shocks/struts for awhile and just haven't had a chance to buy them. The car looks like poo because of the extreme rust spots it has since it was on a collision lot for awhile waiting to be fixed after a snowy day so the salt/brine had PLENTY of time to settle in and make itself comfy.

well in that case, if you enjoy quality products, $15 gas fillups, you're practical, then you're the perfect candidate for a fit

you can't go wrong with either a GD or the new '09 GE. I've had both.

Benatar referance aside (), I traded a 328i convertible for my '09 Fit.

The last oil change on the BMW was $2000 by the time they replaced rotors, struts, and what-not!

It's a Honda!

I do all my own maintenance. Heck I pay around $50 for an oil change and that was using Royal Purple oil. I have never taken a car to get an oil change in my life. Heck i've been doing it since I was about 13 or 14.

This is a local one. I know it's an auto but tell me if that is what I'm looking at paying when it comes to price.

Well monday I test drove a fit...AND FRIEKEN LOVED IT! I will definitely be buying one, hopefully within the next 2 or 3 months (gotta get a job first). The one I drove was an '09 Sport.

I have a couple of questions though:
1. The guy I test drove with didn't know how the car calculated the oil life (%). Anyone know how this works?

2. I wouldn't be doing any major modifications to it since I am in college and currently trying to move out and be on my own (again) with my fiancee so would i be better off trying to find a used '08 or older or just go ahead and get the '09 and wait for the aftermarket to catch up? The only mods I would be able to afford would be intake, exhaust, lowering springs, and maybe rims (if you consider rims a mod). Turbo/supercharger would be awhile down the road.

Don't follow the oil life thing, just change it when you know it has to be changed. I did my first at 4000 and I'll do the next at 9000

I am partial to the 07/08 because that is what I have but get what you want. I just graduated from college and don't have much money for mods myself...just pick them up slowly...you don't need the car to be stock one day and all changed the next. I'm doing things 1 at a time.

I went from an Audi A6 to a fit...so I definitely know there are big differences between luxury cars and fits. They'll be little things you notice once you get the car, but nothing that I haven't gotten use to. No seat warmers...no arm rest...no 6 disc cd changer...no bose sub...less cup holders...stupid crap like that. but I would never go back. I love my fit.

He was just wondering how it calculated the %, as was I.

I don't have any of that stuff anyways...only 2 cupholders, no cd changer, no seat warmers, no arm rest, crappy audio. I will actually be upgrading. The only thing I will probably miss will be the handling, and that will be THE ONLY THING. lol.

I don't know if anyone has suggested it but I would suggest a sport over base. I travel a lot so having cruise control is must at times. but the you get a few more upgrades that come with a sport, radio, fog lights, and lip kit. One last thing the sport kit does not have extra horsepower or and extra handling... just don't want to get you confused saying sport model, just means a little extra bells and whistles haha
