With mindless driving, automatics are approaching and approximating the mileage of manual shift cars.

With careful driving, manual always wins - everything else being equal.

Ehh, no flames fanned.

I mindless drive at times, sometimes you are just getting to work. Other times I am focusing on improving my fuel mileage, it's much more involved than just pointing the car and steering.
