I'm not sure about all cars, but I know for a fact that the Fit has Direct Fuel Cut-Off, which means that when the throttle is closed and the car is pushing the engine, no fuel is injected. With other cars, it might keep injecting fuel, but when coasting in gear in the Fit, I see 9999 MPG on the ScanGauge.
