ECU upgrade for Jazz Vtec

ECU upgrade for Jazz Vtec
Today I've just received a letter from Honda Malaysia with statement
"We wish to inform you that your vehicle (chassis No. MRXXXXXXXXXXX) with (Reg No. XXXXX) is required to undertake Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software update. The said exercise is to ensure that your vehicle is in excellent running condition."
Has any of you Jazz owners out there received a similar letter. Does it mean if we do not upgrade the ECU the engine will be damaged? I just don't quite understand why the ECU needs to be upgraded when the car is purchase only about five months ago.
