cargo question

I'm wondering if someone could help me. I'm a muscian and I have some music gear I need to haul on a regular basis. In particular, I have an 88 key keyboard which is 55 inches long. With the seats folded flat, will the Fit accomodate this length from the back hatch to the back of the front seat? This is my biggest piece of gear, if it Fits, the Fit will be go for me. ...........I'm really sorry for that last sentence. Really, I am.

The Fit seems like it's going to be perfect for me zipping around LA, and finding parking spaces. I'll try to post some pics if I get it.

Although I didn't measure it - it certainly should accomodate it without any problem. Bear in mind that you have 7'10" from hatch to dashboard - which is 94 inches.

Another thought, it might also probably lay across the back seat.

I'd just take it with me, and find a Fit and see how it does!

I believe you should be okay with the keyboard. Honda says with front seat folded down in Long Mode, there is 8 ft from hatch to front seat. I cannot imagine the distance between glove compartment and back of the front seat to be more than about 3 feet. That should give you 5 ft with back seats down, so you should be good with room to spare.

My question to you - is that keyboard in a hard case when you measure it?

I measured it in the soft case, so it is a little squishy as far as an absolute measurement is concerned.

Thanks for the responses. I'll make it fit if I have to kick it. I love the magic seats. It would also probably fit with the rear seats flipped up width wise, but I would prefer to fit everything in the hatch with the rear seats folded flat.

I'll need to fit a keyboard, guitar, PA system and bags of everything else. Bands can be fun (except when you hire a guitar player, and then he wants to play all his songs and ..........nevermind, I digress ) I'm currently recording like mad and performing live alot less, but that will change in a few months.

Heh, sounds like fun. Don't you just love the studio? My a cappella group records a bunch at the end of every semester - we're currently in progress on our second CD.

I'll need to carry an upright bass, small amplifier, stool, music stand, and assorted stuff. I looked at a fit yesterday, and while I didn't measure it, it looked plenty big enough for all my stuff.

I just wish it was named "Jazz" here in the U.S.

If you mean "love" as in "hate", yes I just love the studio . Good luck with your CD.

I still think they made a mistake with the name - they should have gone with "Jazz", as in Europe.

Then, instead of saying the Fit can accomodate a surfboard, they could be saying that the Jazz can accomodate a double bass. Alas, I guess the American consumer is not that sophisticated...

You'll have trouble carrying your bass upright - the Fit doesn't have a sunroof!!

Sorry, just couldn't resist!!

Not as sexy as a surfboard, I guess. They mention a surfboard in the blurb on the UK honda site, too!

My bass player fits her stand up orchestral bass in a 20 year old Civic. It's amazing.

With the back seats down, utility mode, the "floor" measures 56" from inside the hatch to the back of the front seats (all the way back). FWIW - the hatch opening is approx. 30.5" tall.

Hey...thanks for the reminder! I always put the link in my sig, and forgot for this forum.

edit: strange, every other forum I'm on retroactively puts the sig on all posts. This one doesn't...
