In August 2006 after installing a free flowing axle back and AEM cold air intake and running on premium fuel I got my all time best fuel mileage of just over 42 MPG.... This was while driving on a vacation on both sides of the Texas Mexican border from San Antonio to Uvalde to Eagle Pass to Laredo, Matamoros, South Padre Island and filling up some where S.W. of Corpus Christi.. It is pretty flat in the area and the cruise control was used almost all of the time. My wife is fluent in Spanish and the locals south of the Rio Grande were very impressed with the new Fit so we had no trouble finding youngsters wherever we were that would give it a good washing for a dollar or two.... Liquor was cheap and I took advantage so it was a good idea to drive slow.

Back when I was testing

Not advocating doing it at all, but it's real. It's the only way I could get consistent OEM MPG numbers. After wasting a great deal of time chasing my ass.

"Auto shut off" varies a great deal on my car and I suspect all Fits'. My plan is to do it for 4 fills to get my SG dead on with my driving style than stop. At that point I cant trust SG more than OEM

My fit from NO gas to tip top "in sight", takes 13.45gal to an ounce!
Using a random Pump Auto cut off from a 100% empty tank (my 600 mile run in August) it takes 12.45 gal. That may of been wrong and some of the reason I decided to test this as I'm doing.
On my last 3 over fills I was able to add (below) from the 1st Auto cut off.
8-15 +2.36 Gal
8-30 +4.00
9-24 +2.67
All from the same pump and one I verified with a measured 1 gal can.

So you can see on 3 fills above, the fill at the Auto cut off can vary all over the place

Filling to the top you can see it with you eye and verify what when in the tank.

This is exactly the reason you see some claim unreal FE on a tank and than the next (if the report) it but that good.

All I can say is Honda spec is very conservative and nothing close to reality

I'm sorry but that is hard to believe without hypermiling.

There was plenty of hyperMILING involved. I said hyperFILLING. That tank was before I knew you could fit up to 2 more gallons in after the click. If had been doing both, I'd have some pc0snq-like tanks.

Okay my apologies. I thought you were just doing the first click while filling. Maybe I will try to overfill my fit gas tank someday to see what I will be getting. Right now I am very content of the mpg that I'm getting(37-39mpg) although I'm wishing for more.

491. It was my 9th tank since the car was new.
All my others were 410 or less.

that was one tank with the click off and then squeeze in as much as possible. i got to 11.3 gallons and since i started with the first gas station after the light came on i think it was ok since i was consistently at 75 or 80 for 98% of that tank

I have gone over 500 miles on numerous occasions by filling to the top and keeping my speed at around 70 or a little lower... I get right at 400 doing the same now since putting in the high boost upgrade.... Jumping down on more than a few times and the fuel light comes on at 360.

See, this is what I mean about how many miles on a tank. I am getting about the same miles per tank, but my milage is 33 mpg at best. If I fill to first click, I get about 290 miles when the gas light comes on. If I shake the car when filling each time it clicks, I get another 2 plus gallons in, or 360-380 miles when the gas light comes on... That is the design of the fill line going under the car to the tank under the front seats. On my Sabaru, when it clicks I am done...

i only ever fill up to the first click because the first click is there for a reason(as stated)

I never really pay too much attention to how many miles I go on a tank but the best MPG Ive ever gotten was 44.2 or something like travelling from key west to tallahassee.. this tank was all interstate/turnpike and staying right at 70 or just under.. of course i dont normally drive like this but i was in no hurry and was very curious

this thread is a total failure.

the hypermilers', being very serious about mpg, data should be considered the most accurate........miles per tank is a joke

Don't quite see how it's a fail thread since he asked a question and got responses unless you just didn't like the question. He's been referred to some of those other threads but how this is a failure I don't see.

it was destined for failure.. people dont usually keep tabs on how many miles they went.. i only reset my odometer to see how far i went to check my mpg then it gets reset...

Since I've gotten my Fit, I've averaged about exactly the EPA MPG. Not much more, not much less.

It's advertised as 28/34 and that's about the range with mixed driving that I get.

Hard to tell with the tank, as I think the low fuel warning light comes on very early. If I fill it up immediately when I see it? I'm usually only filling 8+ gallons or so, so cheaper fill up, but less miles on the trip odometer.

I've pushed it a couple times, going by my MPG average...and I have added as much as 30+ more miles before I've whimped out and refilled, not wanting to risk looking like a fool and running out of fuel.

But since my MPG's are about dead on EPA, my tanks follow suit, depending on how much highway vs. city driving I'm doing I get as low as 270-280 or as high as 300+...

I don't get some of the almost Hybrid numbers that some of you report.

how are you guys getting 400+ miles?? thats impressive. You guys live in the city or country side or what? I'm getting about 320 - 340 on 9 gallons of fuel and I do mostly city driving. Just recently got my scan gauge II says I'm averaging 35 - 37 mpg so I guess I'm pretty accurate with my previous calculations. But I'm curious, 400+ miles? You should state if you do city or highway driving mostly, and if you live in the city of country side.

400+ is easy if you completely fill the tank. I drove 499 miles last tank and put in exactly 12 gallons to top it off. That's 41.5 MPG. I do 60/40 highway/city and never go over 65.

I have an 07. I generally fill up when the gas light comes on. sometimes I drive 30+ miles before re-filling just to laugh about good gas economy. I usually put in 9 gallons of gas and I refill after about 300 miles. I think my best was 320. I consistently drive 70+ sometimes 80+. I am pleased getting advertised gas mileage driving at the speeds i drive at. I drive alot, and mostly highway.
