I went through the process at the roofrack shop and got a total price including delivery to NYC of 147GBP ($278). That's the bars, foot pack and fitting kit. I think I'll go ahead, since I don't see any other options, and in 2 months I'll want to carry 4 humans, a dog and a lot of luggage on a 800 mile round trip.

On this page you can get the Thule 761 load bars which are square just like the ones in the US, and they fit the 750 towers that will work with the 1312 fit kit. There is no reason not to get the entire setup here and then throw on a US faring, US bike rack, US kayak rack etc... US market stuff will fit the square bars. Once I get my camera back today I'll take a picture of my fit with the roof rack on it. I bought all the pieces from the roofrackshop except the bike trays and the fairing. Went on the car fine, no problems and the US market stuff fit exactly like it was supposed to.

But you said that your bike trays will only fit round bars which means that you will have to get a Yakima rack. Nothing Thule can do about that. They don't make round bars but their bike trays will fit both round and square bars.
I went this route and have been quite happy. Delivery is quick and all my U.S. attachments have FIT on the rack! I spaced the bars around 27 inches and have had it loaded with 4 whitewater creek boats. Worked fine. The European version is much easier to install than any U.S. version I have installed on my other cars. Thanks for the link to the Roof Rack Shop and mad props to the ladies and gentlemen that work there!

You can always put a rack on your Fit, it may not be certified by Yakima but I put a rack on my Fit. Pictures here, http://drknife.com/blog/index.php?itemid=47&catid=4

I do think there are better clips for the car though. My setup was taken off of my 1995 ford escort wagon.

Anything is possible.

NCFIt,
nice job. glad it worked out.

what length crossbars did you use? i'm also interested in carrying 4 creek/playboats.

i see you have the thule stacker, which folds down nicely...correct?

i just installed tracks onto the roof, so now i need to buy the rest of the rack. i may buy 58", and cut it down to whatever. i had a 54" stick on the roof, and it didn't stick out beyond the mirrors, but it could be a head knocker.

thanks,
tom

Hello NCFit could you post a couple more pics of the Thule rack you got from the UK I am also thinking of going this way when and if I ever get my Fit Sport (notice I didn't specify a Fit color I will take anything at this point), it's been a month since I plunked down my deposit. Thanks.

Hey TJ_boof,

When installing the tracks, how did you determine which holes to drill, and which ones to leave alone (to avoid drilling a roof support)? Do you have pictures? Are yours the Yakima or Thule tracks?

I used the 120cm bars which is just a little over 47 inches. It holds the boats fine. The stackers do fold down and I will post more pictures soon.

i've been told the thule and yakima tracks are the same.

i pulled the headliner down a bit on each side to avoid drilling the roof supports, wiring, and the side air curtain assemblies. the only place i skipped an anchor point was near the air cartridge location (near the rear). i moved another anchor about 1" to avoid a roof support. all in all, a fairly time consuming install due to me needing to see the obstacles. i did not want to damage the headliner and trim panels. luckily, the trim panel clips are not the type that self destruct when removed...so the re-install goes fine, but requires patience to get it right.

the expanding nuts work great, and the track conforms perfectly to the roof curve. i couldn't be happier with the results...looks OEM. i did cut the 54" tracks back to 48" because the roof curves a little more drastically up front, and didn't want to risk the track not laying flat. i'll try to get some pix if you are still interested...or hole locations if you are ready to drill blind (risky).

I'm definitely still interested, if you wouldn't mind posting some pictures. I have a spare set of 48" Yakima tracks, so at least I won't have to trim them, first. My concern is also the curve at the front of the roof. I've seen tracks pull the sheetmetal up (kind of a reverse dent), where the front or rear of the tracks were at too great an angle, and the stiffness of the track won over the softness of the roof metal.

No problems so far with wind noise... I have had it on the highway loaded and unloaded with no noise. I have posted more pictures of the rack at http://hondafittrips.blogspot.com/ Hope this helps!

What website did you buy these from. I tried from one site and they wouldn't send to U.S. The other site ended up costing over $95 for shipping, putting the whole deal well over $300. What was your cost? Did you get the aero bars?

Get them here.. https://www.roofrackshop.com/vehicle...asp?vehID=2207
I got the square bars, and it was around $275 or something with shipping. I am sure that shipping is based on where you live, so that might add more. It is worth not having to wait and it will still be that much when Thule comes out with it here in the states, so damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I am about to go ahead with the roof rack shop order from the UK.

Along with your post this link made me feel a lot better.

Thanks for taking the time to lay this out...I have one last question regarding the quantities of each item required as they refer to some of the items as "paks".

How many of item 761 bars do you need
How many of item 750 towers do you need
How many of item1312 fit Kit

Thanks in advance for your help...your fit looks nice with the racks

Steve

When you enter the page from the link, there are small blue boxes. Make sure that the ones that you want are marked. When you proceed to the checkout it will account for what you need. They will email you back with the shipping charges and they exactly what you are getting. I think that they have it set up so that it comes packaged together unless you specify otherwise for singles or spare parts.

I installed a Thule roofrack that I ordered from the UK, and put on a luggage basket I already had. Now I just need a fairing, since there's noticeable wind noise. Anyone know what size fairing I need?

Also thanks for all the valuable advice here. We're now ready to drive to Maine with 4 people and a dog and luggage. It only remains to make the drive a little quieter.
