American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted total July vehicle sales of 114,690, a decline of 17.3 percent compared to July 2008 results, the company reported today. American Honda year-to-date sales of 645,468 represented a 30.7 percent decline based on the daily selling rate*.
Sales of the fuel-efficient Honda Civic increased 3.1 percent to 30,037. Honda CR-V, a best-seller in the crossover utility vehicle segment, increased sales by 9.9 percent to 19,151. The Honda Division posted July sales of 106,028, a decline of 15.8 percent compared to last year's aggressive pace.
"Strong interest from the CARS program increased dealership traffic late in the month and contributed to Civic and CR-V sales gains," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "July was our highest-volume month so far this year."
The Acura Division posted July 2009 sales of 8,662, a decrease of 32.5 percent compared to last year's July sales.
*The daily selling rate is calculated with 26 days for July 2009 and July 2008. The year-to-date daily selling rate is calculated with 178 days for 2009 and 179 days for 2008. All percentages represent the daily selling rate.
3,000+ Fits were sold compared to last month, that's a huge increase no doubt thanks to the CARS program (too bad not a one of them are mine ). Sales are still down for the year, though. August should be even better with the additional $2 Billion for CARS.
If you have a qualifying clunker, I could not imagine a better time to buy because not only do you get $4,500 off, but it is also END OF THE MODEL YEAR clearance, you could probably get a Sport AT for like $10-$11K. Sucks for the rest of us with crap cars that barely get over the fuel economy limit, doesn't seem fair that some get rewarded for previously driving a gas guzzling behemoth.

The word is that 2010 Fits should start hitting lots in late September into October. Before selections get too thin you should start looking for the exact Fit you want this month or else you'll get stuck with a base Tidewater Metallic .

Yeah, I'd say go look now...I've already got some spankin' good offers on 09s but none in my color so I'm passing and waiting for the 2010s. Just start emailing dealers and see what you can work...It'll be worth it to you if you're not too picky about color.

BTW...my quote from the dealer was $15,685 + doc fees, TT&L.
For a 2009 Fit Sport with Manual Transmission. It also had floormats and tint.
But it was Orange Revolution, and uhh...homie don't play dat. (lol...I thought about it but I just really want white--and I don't have all the money for my downpayment)
They also offered me $1000 over my payoff on my trade (2006 Honda Civic EX 5spd)

This is an interesting dilemma. If Honda overall sales are down 15.8% and Fit sales are down 27.6%, one would expect thousands of unsold Fits in inventory. On the other hand, if the CARS program has sparked a stampede, especially for cars with high MPG ratings, there may not be any end of year clearance prices. because there won't be any cars available.
Two weeks ago, Curry Honda in Atlanta listed 32 Fits in inventory; as of August 6, they are showing 14 (2 base; 8 sport; 4 Navi -- with only 1 MT out of 14 cars), and with authorization of another $2 billion for CARS, I suspect those will disappear fast. Because of the market distortions introduced by CARS, I think there are going to be few clearance deals on Fits. If at all possible, I would go for it now, rather than hoping for clearance prices, because I think they're going to be the exception, not the rule.

I got the info on hondanews.com. Honda rarely does any dealer incentives because the cars usually sell well regardless. They are doing so well, they actually turned a decent profit in their 1Q report despite the recession.

nah i totally got that, i was just messing around.
thanks for sharing that info with us.. looks like great news for some, not so much for people who just bought their FITs prior to the C.A.R.S. program and took pennies for their gas guzzler trade in
