stop calling it expensive!
Anybody notice how many reviews say the Fit is nice but too expensive? Using the "build yours" feature on manufacturer web sites, I have found that to equip Yaris, Kia Rio5, Accent the same way as a Fit, the price is within a few hundred dollars as Fit Sport. Try getting all that stuff on a Ford Focus, Corolla, Civic or something and you are quickly going over $19K. This car is one good deal. Just wish the driver's seat had 8-way adjustment.
People are suckers for published base MSRP, even though it frequently doesn't mean anything. Writers are frequently just as poorly informed.

Everything everyone said here is right on, but on top of that what the Fit comes with standard is extra on every other vehicle. Add that to the cocky Honda engineers who have pretty much staked their reputation by saying that the Fit will get five star and "good" crash ratings and that's where the extra money went for us.
It is expensive, but if u look at the features, it's a grand deal. yaris, which starts at 12k, if u build w/ the same specs as teh fit, costs 17k.
The fit may be a lil more than prefered, but its an AMAZING deal. Today i learnred about the immobilizer feature. I keep[ learning more and more about this car. This little fit is full of surprises

I have noticed some of the press try and hate the car and call it expensive.

Honda Fit a pleasing but pricey package for a subcompact:

Time (ie, a few months at almost $3 a gallon) will tell folks.
BTW, GM and Ford's sales are down this month. This is a big month for car sales....income tax refund time! A friend's brother that is a car salesman sold 15 new Volvos last month, his best month.

you get what you pay for and thats it! Its a honda and what is honda? Its a name you can trust...maybe its expensive than the others, but what i paid for it i feel comfortable...at least i did not buy an AVEO for the same price cause then i am just a plain MORON
Electric power steering — getting more common in the industry because it saves fuel — is well-tuned so that the steering feels properly weighted and linear, neither light and twitchy, nor heavy and balky as some electric steering systems can be.
I would agree that a $16k new Honda is definitely not expensive in the grand scheme of things.
As mentioned above, the base MSRP is higher than the competition, but that doesn't mean much.
Yes, you can get a base Civic cheaper than a loaded Fit, but a base Civic also doesn't have A/C or lots of other things that you're probably going to want to have.
Two years ago, if I was in the market for a $16k new car, I'd get a Taffeta White stripped-down Civic coupe with a 5MT. Nowadays, I'd opt for the Sport AT Fit, as I need to move more stuff, I spend more time in traffic, and I've already got a fast 5spd car.

Talking about cost and value, there are very few cars which will cost as little as this car in purchase price and operating expense, that will also return very nicely on depreciation. This 15-16k car will be worth 8-9k with 100k miles on it. That's the real value. Only Toyota (maybe Scion) cars retain value like this. By far this car is the least expensive transportation on the road.
Here are some numbers. 100k worth of fuel at $3/gal @ 35mpg =$8570
Depreciation = $8k (high side)
Average maintenance costs, tires, brakes, oil/filter= $2000
Average cost per mile =18.57cents/mile
My domestic cars cost anywhere from 35-55 cents/mile due to poorer fuel efficiency and greater depreciation.....and they were bought used!!!!

Fit Base is $1000 less. and drives far better.
Probably it is our domestic minded thinking of what Ford/GM/Chrysler would throw out at us in their bread and butter cars with 0 down 0% Financing and all the cheap bells and whistles including a/c for a poorly engineered, poorly built and shitty residual value is what we base things on.
