I am a large older guy that has shrunk down to 6'2" due to degenerative bone disease and scoliosis.... My wife is 5"0" and has osteoporosis..... She loves the way the Fit fits her and I am the one that has problems..... My car is a GD model and she tried out a new GE and ended up buying a Subaru partly due to the seating position... I am presently wishing that my Fit's seat had the seat adjustment that my wife's car has and shopping for an after market seat that doesn't require me to have to eat pain pills for a couple of days after a long drive..... I spent $1200 dollars for a seat for our Goldwing mostly because of my back but also to allow my wife to be able to see the road over my shoulder and have arm rest that would keep her from falling off when she doses off on long interstate rides. Honda would be smart to offer seats and head rest that can be adjusted to fit more of the people in the world market.... They would sell more cars if they did.

Is your Fit a 2009 or 2010? The 2008s are okay for me. I like the Fit in everyother way so am trying to figure it out. Thank you for your comments. I have osteoarthritis in my neck and having it jut forward is awful. I empathize with you when it comes to positions and pain.

reply head rest

What year is your fit? 2008? 2009? 2010?

Think very hard about whether you want to change this in any way.

Mine is a 2007.... Like I said it seems more comfortable to my wife than the new model..... I actually wish that the headrest on my car was close enough to my head that I could rest my head on it.... I haven't driven the newer model but Honda must have have changed the head rest position big time...

Yes they have changed them as of 2009. I tried them again today with and without a cushion. I think I'll work with one of the back shops and our healthclub to help me figure out the best way to sit for my neck and just add a seat pad. Do you like the Fit otherwise? Has it held up for you?

I am crazy about my Fit and other than routine maintenance and engine modifications I have chosen to do, I haven't had to lay a wrench on it..... I change the oil and have put a super charger on it along with lighter wheels and tires..... There are a lot of things like power steering, power brakes, power windows, rear window wiper, air bags and even the sound system that I could do without easily on a car and would gladly trade for a comfortable 8 way adjustable seat and adjustable headrest..... Getting old really sucks.

It used to be that all those features (except for vacuum-assisted brakes -- even my 1970 Honda N600 had those) came only on luxury cars, but you have to go awfully far down the food chain to find a car that doesn't have power steering and power windows, and if you do, it's certainly not going to have an 8-way power seat. Not a rhetorical question, but do ANY Honda cars (Honda, not Acura) come with headrests that adjust forward and back, as well as up and down?

The more upright your seating position the more the headrest can be a problem. I find if I angle the seat back to the rear one more notch the headrest issue no longer exists. (reference the '09)

I find that the opposite of what you and others are saying is the case for me on my 2007 model..... I am wondering if there was a change made on the GE models for the U.S. market brought on by complaints or if the change was made on Fits sold worldwide.... Someone could make a killing marketing an after market adjustable headrest and seat rails with fore and aft, up and down adjustment.

We took our first long trip in the Fit over the Thanksgiving holiday. When my wife was driving, I watched her, and observed that the back of her skull was about 2" in front of the head rest. I'm guessing that there is about 1" clearance with my head. So, for our bodies, the GE headrest design is just about perfect.

Complain to Honda about headrests

Hi All- I love my 2009 fit but the front headrests are truly painful for me. I know many other feel the same way. I just called Honda customer service and filed a complaint. They said they've received several calls about the headrest problem and that if enough people complain to them, they will have to look into the problem which could result in a recall or update. Please call and register this complaint. It only took me about 5 minutes. Here is the number: 1-800-999-1009

As long as it's an option, I don't mind. I find the 2009 headrests just about perfect -- the Fit is the first car I have ever owned with head rests that project far enough forward.

Maybe the new headrests are designed to allow you to recline a bit and still be safe. In my GD I'm not comfortable unless I'm damn near completely upright, and that is when the headrest is in the best position compared to my body. They seem to have reversed the philosophy with the new ones.
