2008 Honda Fit
My assumption is that it will have 121HP.

i came across this link...or is it because they use higher octane? 97,98, 100+?

I'd prefer it they allowed the rest of the car to catch up to the performance and safety aspects that they seem to have gone overboard on.
We don't need more power - just lower emissions, upgraded carpeting and upholstery, locking gas cap, a dead pedal, seat adjustment and a more solid cargo floor. As it is now, the Fit doesn’t have this stuff – and there is no reason for it.

I cant believe the guy from Edmunds in the article was quoted saying that the 1.5L VTEC was F1 inspired. That made me laugh pretty hard, id love for him to actually show me what part of this motor was F1 inspired.
yea a locking gas cap would be nice but then again you can
pick up one online (geniune OEM) for $20 or less....also...
i would also only assume that a i-vtec power plant is in the works
Honda is pretty good about listening to what their consumers want and are very competitive. In the US, Honda pretty much owns the market for a car like the Fit.
There really isn't any real "competition". However,
that status is only temp. until other companies such as
totoya, kia, etc... start bringing it. And I sure hope that
they bring it. IMO, I don't think Honda will back down.
Competition is GREAT! I'd love to see all the options of the JDM and models of the other countries here in the USDM.
7 speed CVT, 4 wheel disc brakes, Navi, LED Tail lights, Side Blinkers on the mirrors, etc etc etc. as factory options.
and then i-vtec. That would prolly mean lower emissions, more power, etc...and as far as safety goes...there's so many diff. aspects. you gotta look at...as for crash ratings,
i think the expected NHTSA ratings of 5 star frontal and 4 star side impact is outstanding for a car that small. Now, given that some of you are from other countries, the crash
ratings or the "safety" isn't as high maybe. I say this because I saw some Fit/Jazz pictures without Side Impact/Seat factory airbags. I personally would be
uncomfortable if my factory airbags where missing...just knowing that they were no longer there would bother me a lot. I mean, I say this only because I know they're supposed to be there. I was originally thinking...
I will swap them out for some Bride seats. (this was before
Honda had officially released it here in the US). But I think
its gonna take A LOT, in order for me to remove that option, esp when I know my wifey will also be driving it when she's not driving the GT350/G35.

You don't sell a car by saying oooh, this has a dead pedal, locking gas cap, etc. etc.
Some of those things were dropped to keep the cost of the car down.
My point is that we don't need a more powerful engine at the expense of adding a bit of polish to the package.
Except for the emissions, everything else I listed is MINOR. All the more reason why it should be included on a PREMIUM (and premium priced) hatchback like the Honda Fit.
I'm not saying that Honda should have compromised safety in bringing the car to NA. I approve. If nothing else, all those SUV/Minivan drivers need to be reassured.
I am talking about the 2008 Fit, not the 2007!

Always makes me laugh, aside from 2.5*2 = 5, they're not even remotely similar... but yet people are always spewing this.
Well, as originally stated VTEC and paddle shifting is F1 inspired. That's where Honda first used that technology.
VTEC has always been billed as F1 inspired. When the NSX first came out in 1991, the ads in C&D or R&T would be 2 pages wide and on top there would be a pic the NSX and underneath would be Senna's F1 Mclaren Honda

Also, VTEC has never really been used in F1, at least in the way we know it for road cars.
It would be a disadvantage to have a system like VTEC in an F1 engine, because you would want the "power cam" to always be enabled in the engine, not an economy one.
The philosophy of VTEC was developed in F1 in the 1980s, but true VTEC has never been used.
The engines would certainly be optimized for low-rpm use and high-rpm use, but not via VTEC, rather through tuning of the ECU.
