That is a refill for the air-freshener (er, Aroma Thera-ma-pizer?), which is what is sticking out of the cigarette lighter (power outlet) in the main photo just to the left of the bottle. Asians in general, and the Japanese in particular, like their air fresheners (er, Aroma Therapy).

 

Having experience driving both the Fit and the R2 I'd go with the Fit (I'm an ex-Subaru employee, too). The R2 is one of the most cramped and ergonomically awful cars I've driven in years. It would be great if they'd change a lot of things about it. The one cool thing is HID headlights standard. That's a nice feature to have on a 'cheap' car. Subaru lately has gotten themselves a bit 'puffed up' and are ramming their prices through the ceiling. It's a sad situation.

Anyhow, Fit for the win.

If it was all wheel drive i might consider it, it also helps if the exterior styling is toned down.
