Million volts from my fit

Each time I come out from my Fit and touch the door I take a high discharge electricity shot. How can I remove the static electricity from my seats fabric ? Enough is enough! thanks

Hold on to the top of the door frame or the A-pillar as you lift yourself out of the seat. You'll be grounded and no static charge will build up between you and the car body.

I got into the habit of "smacking" the car. it doesn't hurt (in the situtaiont u get charged) if u do it fast while expecting it.

I typically let the back of my leg graze the rocker panel as I'm getting out of my seat. I usually get shocked, but my legs aren't sensitive at all so I deal with it.

just touch any metal part of the car while getting down the car, it is not the car that is charged, it is u. so even if u don't touch the car, when u open the door, u'll get it too,

Fits have low rolling resistance tires wich makes this problem worse. I've heard that if you just wait a second or two before getting out you'll be ok. It is not your seats, it is the friction between tires and road making static--like dragging you feet on the carpet to shock your 'friends'. Grounding yourself will fix it too, as described above.
I've heard that the toll booth operators hate this.

Hold onto the car as you get out, like the door latch on the frame. Mine was delivering KILLER zaps, but it has finally reduced a lot after 2-3 weeks. I was told to try some anti-static on the driver's seat. Nothing to do with the tires. I could get out, get shocked, get back in the car, get out, get shocked... it's the shirt + seat generating static when you get out.

This is correct - in order to lower rolling resistance, tire manufacturers replace some of the carbon black in the rubber with silica. The silica does not conduct the static charge as well as the carbon black, hence the static build up...

Oh the joy of being a tire process engineer

I agree. I'm getting zapped when I'm still in the parking lot. No friction here!
Maybe I'll try to rub some anti-static on my seats or spray anti-static. If it doesn't work, I stay in my nice red Fit! yessss

if getting in the car, touch your door panel with the back of the hand, it does not hurt this way .

I had the same problem with you.
You can to hold the door on metal point and after push your foot on the road. Not first your foot and the door then.

You can add grounding strip(s) to your car.

Another problem that happens with static discharge is that sometimes fuel gets ignited causing fire. Be sure to ground yourself before filling your tank!
