real electric supercharger?

Is there such thing as a real electric supercharger? There are alot of ebay ones which sell for $30+ and I looked at some of the seller's feedbacks and it looked like most people were satisfied about what they bought. I also googled Electric Supercharger and found this supercharger selling for $199. How would I know which one works and which one doesn't?

Thanks

Those things are crap and a waste of money. I don't know anyone who's bought one. And if someone actually does, he/she is an idiot.

Most of the $99.00 ones are just plastic squirrel cage fans that are from boat engine compartment blowers. They don't even put out as much air as our small 1.5L engine uses at half throttle which makes them a restrictor at full throttle.

There is a company in the UK that makes proper electric turbo chargers. They use a high speed electric motor (up to 70,000 RPM!) hooked to a proper turbo compressor. This is basically an electric driven turbo rather than using exhaust gases. You can also use this a a add on first stage turbo for a car that has a turbo already and you have a twin turbo setup.

Controlled Power Technologies... VTES

mmmm reading their brochure, it's only at the proof of concept stage. It's "production ready" but not in production. It appears they are marketing to manufacturers and not aftermarket. They consider the main potential application as an additional boost to already turbo-charged engines (seems like a step in the wrong direction).

It's safe to say there isn't any such thing as an inexpensive electric supercharger. And probably not an expensive one.

"Can I wire the supercharger so its always on while the car is on?
No, you must never have the supercharger be on continuously for more than a few minutes or it will cause heat up and damage. This would void the warranty. It is designed to be on for short bursts. It would not take a vehicle more than 30 seconds to reach over 100 MPH, during this period the supercharger would be working when your vehicle is floored."

hmm.... a supercharger that has an on/off switch... and you cant run it constantly or it blows up.... lol i just find this funny... real super chargers run all the time the motor does... they dont blow up after a few min....

I can see it now. Pop the hood pull the recoil started a few dozen times, swear like a drunken sailor because it won't start (I gotta f*** with my blower every time I want to use it)... By the time it is running forget it, the other guy has run the race, gone home and is eating dinner.

i dunno, the tests of it blowing a roll of tape are pretty compelling.

Don't laugh -- I built model airplanes as a kid, and one of the tricks was to use a pen bladder (basically a thick-walled balloon) as a fuel tank. You cranked the thing with a clamp on the fuel line, then as soon as it started, release and launch. However, the primary reason was not to deliver more fuel, but to deliver fuel in any flight position, regardless of G-forces.

I remember seeing a video a while back of some guys at a shop with a dyno messing around with an electric leaf blower. They hooked it up to the intake of a Civic and did get a boost in power. Not much, around 10 HP if I recall.
This blower probably used around 1500 watts or about 125 amps at 12 volts. Fits have (I think) 90 amp alternators. This shows you the inherent problem with electric supercharging.
Producing even a small power boost uses more power than the Fit electrical system can even produce. And you still have to provide power to all the other things that normally consume electricity.

As others say, total waste. You could make an electric supercharger but it takes at least a 3 hp fan and at least 450 scfm capacity. And a much bigger alternator.
None of those work.

I think this is where another Honda product is needed. Honda Power Equipment - Generators
