I may be wrong but, I think that is only their sales goal. That way when they blow past that number, all the stock holders are happy because the share price will go up having exceeded sales estimates.

they might have done that as an early estimate to "test the waters" see how fast they sell those before producing a whole lot more that they won't be able to sell.

that or they could actually be discontinuing this model for the new one people have been talking about.

Honda originally projected 50,000 Honda Fits in the US per year. Maybe 39,000 is just the projected amount for 2006 since it wasn't launched until April.

So perhaps we should get custom chrome badges with "Limited Edition" to put on our Fits.

Apparently all the Honda plants are working at maximum capacity. So they can't produce more vehicles without building more plants.

It seems to me Honda North America is doing the Fit half hearted. Sounds like they didnt expect a world car to sell in the US or Canada. If gas was still $1.25 it wouldnt sell.
But at $2.50 to over $3.00 a gallon the Fit is selling and Honda has no way to keep up.

I had heard awhile back that the Fit production slated for the U.S. was being cut to increase production of the Civic (to be sent to the US), which has been selling faster than expected.
Anyone remember this, or am I dreaming?

Hey, don't complain. It feel good to be part of the 'Exclusive North American Fit Owners Club' to me.

Honda in the past has said they will make X amount of specific vehicle per year and end up selling twice as much that year.

So it's uncertain as to whether this 39,000 sales amount is concrete.

I expect this to change once the new second-generation Fit arrives in the USA, mostly because the new model--unlike the current car--will be built either in Canada or USA at a new factory or an expanded current factory. This could allow as many as 200,000 Fits to be sold in North America alone.
