I saw over the hedge. I have low standards when it comes to dreamworks. hedge was good, but it was never funny. Cars is definitely better. I enjoyed cars more than incredibles or nemo (i didn't like nemo btw). However, the problem w/ cars is you have to have some knowledge. It isn't an entry level movie, so kids might not even enjoy it at all.

Some things u have to know before going to the movie such as the fact nascar cars have no headlights but fake ones (stickers). They also have no horn. Even non-car themes such as commodification of products (in the movie, lightning mcqueen unenthusiastically sponsors an anti-rust brand that doesn't work) These details are vital to understanding plot.

I believe this will work out to be Pixar's poorest showing in recent times. There's just not much that would appeal to kids - there's far too many references you won't understand unless you're older or know a lot about cars as a kid.

The fake headlights/no horn on Nascars
The ricer mentality (7 storied spoiler, glowing neon rims)
dinoco (oil company) and hostile takeover bank as the main competing sponsors
'pinstriping tattoo'
a Jay Leno car
a Arnold Sch. Hummer (lol)
among many other references...

I just can't see it appeal to kids as much as Nemo or The Incredibles did
