First Fit on Deals Gap (Tail of the Dragon)

If the image doesn't work, my apologies; follow this link: http://community.webshots.com/...cMmxh

Last week a friend and I went up to TN and had the luxury of driving through some sweet mountain passes.

If you haven't heard of Deals Gap, google it.

11 miles, 318 turns, no ingress/egress. That's right, I said 318 turns.

I must say, any more power than what we had wouldn't have done us any good. The Fit's performance was fantastic. At one point, we even ended up pushing some motards (of course, they weren't going nearly as fast as they could).

The stock handling and acceleration (surprising, I know) was quite perfect for those tight turns.

To all you Fit drivers, Deals Gap gets four thunbs up from us.

Haha, awesome! Do you drive stick or auto?
Curvy mountain rounds are the fun if you know how to handle the car

that looks like a blast.... shame the roads in texas are mostly flat and boring. at least I get decent mileage because of the flatness

Yeah, GMR is bad game now. Just hit up Deal's Gap. It's only like 2000 miles away.

Let's all try to keep up with Bitter in his WRX

Your Fit will be fine. Just throw it into a lower gear and take it easy.

It's cool its cool. By the time you guys DO catch up to me, I will have filled up, taken a nap, grabbed a snack, refreshed and ready to go downhill.

It's interesting you drive a WRX, Bitter. I just sold a stock 02 to purchase my Fit.

On the roads I was on, all the power the WRX has would have done me little good.

In all honesty, I think my times would have been better in the Honda than they would have been in the Subaru.

The fastest we could really ever get was approximately 35 mph, and with the tight handling of the fit, we could hold much of that speed through the corners.

Good times.

5 speed, bytheway. Nice transmission, especially coming out of the WRX.

Nice to see a fellow (former) WRX owner on the board. Mirrorworks also recently sold an 05 for the Fit. In case you were wondering, Mirrorworks and I are friends, so we're just doing some friendly trash talk.

But I agree with you. The handling ability on the Fit is great, being so light. The quicker steering rack is also something I envy from the Fit. The Fit, out of the box, is an incredibly nimble car. And I think someone mentioned this earlier, but I would take a Fit to autocross over a WRX any day.

However, I spent the previous weekend taking the Fit on a mini-roadtrip up and down California. And I will have to say that the Fit left me missing the WRX. Both are great cars but at the time I just prefer the WRX. To each his own.

Another thing... I will always envy the mileage from a Honda.

My question exactly.

I am moving to Virginia at the end of the year, and can't wait to get my little VFR up on Deal's Gap. Maybe next summer, I'll be one of those motards. I might not be going warp 9, but I will live through it and have an ear-to-ear grin on my face.
