AT Sport, who drives their car in 'S' mode?

I've been wondering if the majority of AT sport owners drive their car in 'S' mode. The paddle shifters have become a novelty to me now. I would rather let the computer do the thinking for me so I leave it in 'D' most of the time.

Who drives their car in 'S' mode?

Who drives their car in 'S' mode and uses the paddle shifters?

Who drives their car in 'D' mode?

or 'C' none of these! Mostly in D with the occasional paddle downshift and sometimes I just feel like using the paddles in S and I do it about every other day. I switch around a lot but then again I only have 150 miles on the car. Love it! Two...Two...Two cars in one!

Shouldn't the second question be: Who drives their car in 'D' mode and uses the paddle shifter for short periods?

I leave the transmission in D most of the time because it's pointless to try and drive 25-30mph using the paddles. Going through the mountain twisties every once in a while requires the pleasure of the paddles.

Our roads are so crowded all the time that I don't feel comfortable trying out the paddle shifters -- and I really want to! I used the downshift and got a response, but got no reaction on the + side. Either I'm doing something wrong, or it's not working. At any rate, traffic is such a pain that I didn't stay in S mode long enough to figure it out.

D mode is D mode. Even if you tap the paddle to a lower gear, the transmission will eventually up shift for you.

Exactly my point - useful fo a quick decceleration (or acceleration) but without needing to put the lever in 'S' mode. If you drive in 'S' without using the paddles what happens? Does it stay in 1st or 5th or whatever gear you were in when the lever is moved to 'S'? (I have not tried it on mine much yet either - still breaking in ;-)

'S' mode without touching the paddles is more aggressive. The transmission holds the gear longer; 5th gear isn't selected also (unless you tap the up paddle).

I guess I'm the wierd one -

I drive in D in town.

I use S on the interstate. The terrain rolls where I live, and I don't like it down-shifting on me all the time. I put it in S, get to 5th gear, and leave it there unless I'm going up a significant incline, then I just paddle back to 4th.

I paddle down when going down exit ramps.

I drive in "D". I have way too many red lights to go through to sit there and shift all the time.

My wife and I found a use for the Sequential shift mode on our most recent trip to rural Pennsylvania. It's a very hilly section of highway (I79) and let's just say that in fifth gear, the Fit doesn't have a lot of power to maintain 75 mph. Ultimately what happens is the car just shifts back and forth between fifth and fourth like crazy. It's really annoying.

The way we got around it was to bring the car up to speed, switch to sequential mode on the fly and then hit cruise control. This way the car doesn't shift around like mad at highway speeds. The only downside is that you'll lose a little bit of speed on hills.

This is why I drive a manual transmission. :-)

I generally stay in D and paddle as needed. My '03 Pro5 as the same sort of optional-manual-auto-transmission and it's one of the features that sold me on the Fit.

I have noticed that it's much smoother to drive in rush-hour traffic in "S" and use the paddles. In D, the car gets a bit confused with the stops and starts and speeds that are slow for long time, fast for a short time and slow again.

City driving (up to 50 mph) I use S with no paddles. On the highway I use D or S with paddles in very hilly areas.

I, currently, am a 50/50 user. I have around 300 miles logged, so I am still seeing what I like more. But having to choose I am mostly a D driver

"S" mode has it's uses. It is the best auto I have driven in hills. When I am on flat roads I will use "D" mode most of the time which is most of my driving.
