HELP: New buyer buyin' a 2011, Rust proofing problem! (GTA)
hello,
I live in Toronto, Canada
I'm a long time reader, first time poster, I have owned a few cars previously
from Protege5 - Mazdaspeed6 - Genesis coupe 3.8,
today my GF and I j/ signed the contract for the 2011 Fit Sport (Canada)
the financial manager keep hard sellin' us the RUSTPROOF MODULE
which i absolutely told them NO, we do not wanna buy it.
but he claimed that the FIT is very un-usual, since all the sensors and
wirin' are EXPOSED on the underside of the car he claimed that older cars would
have all the connections and sensors are hidden
in the cabin and underneath the carpet, but the 2011 FIT is different,
hense, the SPRAY rust proofing will have a chance to VOID the warranty,
cuz it may come in contact w/ those sensors and connectors ....
(which i find very very hard to believe).
can some one please confirm if this is j/ BS from the finance dept.?
cuz all i want is to bring it to krown annually, vs. the $650 module
Please advise!

wires... exposed underneath a car.. I'm a newb but common sense dictates, any wiring left exposed underneath a car is BS. I think you should report him and make a complaint. Who knows you might even get an apology and if lucky a discount or freebies ^_^...
But definitely complain! or give the dealership a bad net review.!

Hey yellowmp5
I lived in Toronto for 50 yrs...now living in New Mexico. I agree...it is important to put the name of that dealership here on this forum, and even name the business guy who told you that.
We had a similar problem with the bus manager at our dealer in Santa Fe...he was terrible, and just lied between his teeth.
I know what winter in Toronto is like, but you will love your new Fit.

My dealership was not quite as bad, but still very pushy on all the add-on crap. When I finally shot down all their 'offers', the lady became very curt and snippy. Their loss, not mine. I was called a couple times by JD Power and gave my feedback in detail. I also submitted the same info in a couple of Honda inquiries via Email. Fun!

thx for all the replies, i kinda knew the guy was not truthful at all,
it would be very very stupid for car manufactures to put all of their
sensors and connection' in a unprotected enviroment....yes i can understand
that these things can be under the car, but it must be cover from all
these dirts/salt/mud/puddles anywayz.
anyhow, my gf will drive this most of the time...i'll probably only drive it
durin' the weekend when it's really really slippery outside
thx for all the advises!

it is bs and dont buy anything extra for corrosion protection. i dont wash my Fit in the wintertime with all salt and crap caked on, no issue even after 3yrs. surface rust on bits and pieces here and there on undercarriage but functionally no issue. panels, no issue. touchup any paint chips on metal before winter.

Car salesmen - ugh. As you already have heard, he's scamming you. Get rustproofing if you have researched it (online and possibly elsewhere) and found that it really adds something to the resale value of the car. Otherwise forget about it.
When I purchased my Fit they tried to tack all kinds of crap onto the purchase. I said no to all of it. Then they tried to tack all kinds of crap onto the financing deal, and I said no to all of it again. In both cases the people pushing all that crap were not pleased. The reason they were not pleased is very, very simple: the markup on all that crap is typically very high, the person who pushes it on you gets a piece of the markup, and that piece is often quite lucrative. They don't care if it is good or bad for you personally; they only care about getting their hand in your pocket.
Just say no.
