Asshats like that really drive me nuts. Good luck finding the person. Something like that happened to me and I ended up using my uninsured motorist coverage to fix it. Tracked the guy down and gave the police his address but I'm pretty sure they never did anything.

That sucks, especially if you know them! Let us know how it goes. I have to say that is one of my fears.. Their karma will catch up with them!

WHen you figure out who did it and they blow you off, take a trip to the hardware store and then introduce their SUV to Mr. Surform.

I'll never know if the shopping cart that put the ding in my Fit's door drifted away from a cluster left in the parking lot, or if someone shoved it. It wasn't angled -- looked like a direct hit. I've been parking near the end of the lots to avoid other cars, but my car still got damaged. When I first moved to this area, traffic wasn't bad at all, especially in the summer when the snowbirds headed north. We actually had scenery! Now the whole area is nothing but sprawl, parking lots, strip malls and endless traffic -- and it's rare to see an undented vehicle. Seems like the more crowded together people get, the less considerate they are. It's one thing when a total stranger carelessly causes damage, but when you're in what is supposed to be a friendly setting and your car gets damaged, that really, really sucks! I hope that SUV owner won't be invited back.

so I met with the person that I had hypothesized hit my car and my deduction was correct. He copped up right away after being asked directly face to face. I'm asking for $800 cash to not go through insurance, he agreed. With the $800 I'm not replacing the door skin just yet as I've repaired most of it myself using paintless dent removal. I removed the interior door panel and then with some rubber mallets and blocks of wood was able to push most of the dent out. There's this 1 foot crease/fold in the door that can only be seen in the sunlight so I'll just leave it as is.

I tried taking pictures but the damage does not show up at all in photos. Also, going out to dinner Weds, I park in the back of the lot with no cars around me and yet I still managed to get a small door ding on the rear passenger door. This really erks me, it's common courtesy people. If I'm forced to park next to cars, I open my doors carefully as to not damage their car.
