New 2010 Fit in Canada

Hi from Canada.

Looking for some feedback from the experts here.

My local dealer still has several 2010 fit sports for about 3000 less than the 2011 price. These have never been registered so are still brand new.

Is it worth going for the 2010 over the 11 ? The only thing I think the 10 doesn't have over the 11 is the Stability Control.

Thanks

Canadian Fits are likely different in some aspects given they are manufactured in Canada... unlike the Fits in the States that come from Japan.

Ask the dealer to outline the differences for you. $3,000 is a nice chunk of change unless the differences are important to you.

Paul56, I quite positive that the Fit for Canada is made in Japan. Actually, I'm very positive.

smac, VSA on the 2011 is really the only difference. $3000 is a good savings.

It seems like they have hard time selling the fit. My mother bought her 2009 fit in march 2010 (dx-a m/t), it was 2k$ cheaper than a 2010 at the time.

The only thing i find silly is the lack of spare tire in the automatic version. you just get a can of foam and a pump. seems dangerous. anyone know if this is the same on the 2011 models ? i havent been able to get to a dealer to check it out.

Thanks

Not dangerous, just saving weight to meet certain MPG level for government crap.

Canada is a big country where are you?

smac, from what my friend at Honda Canada tells me, the spare is still an option with the automatic. It's as Black3sr said, it's to do with meeting fuel economy levels.

What part of Canada are you in that there are still a number of 2010s to choose from?

I did have the same negative "foam and pump" thoughts as you just before I bought the Canadian FIT (VIN starts with "J".....Still made in Japan)...

I finally bought the FIT before Honda decide to shift their factories outside of Japan. Years of assembly line Workers experience and Japanese quality control is important to me.

Back to your foam and pump thoughts, For City driving, I don't worry too much because I can count on Honda Roadside assistance. Just call them. One of the theories I heard was automatics carry extra transmission weight and Honda had to sacrifice a spare tire to stay within Gov't regulations

For longer haul driving and road trips, I will throw one of my spare snow tires in the trunk as I had bought 4 steeles and 4 Michelin X-ice snow tires last winter with the intent to use one as spare emergency. If I am going on a road trip in the winter with my snow tires, I will throw one of my all seasons into my trunk as spare emergency. I had also bought a scissor type tire jack as well for road trips. Due to different tire thread characteristics, it is not advisable to mix all seasons and snow tires and my intention is to use my "spare" to bring me to the nearest service...just like your official spare tire which is a doughnut and can't be for normal use as well

Of course you have the option of buying a spare tire kit for $200 to $300 but for me, I will use that $300 towards my set of 4 snow tires with steelies which I can use them as spare tires anyway.... the other extra expenditure will be the $30 tire jack

My 2 cents

I also have a question about warranty.

Does the manufacturer warranty start when you buy the car or when its manufactured?

Thanks

I'm going to start test driving next week and have most dealers willing to give me the car on my own (i hate test driving with the salesman in the back)

So far the 4 2011 cars im going to drive are

Honda Fit
Kia Forte 5
Hyundai Elantra
Mazda 3 Sport

Im hoping I obviously prefer the fit as i like its quirky looks and good all round visibility, not to mention the cargo room, but will keep an open mind.

Thanks for the help

I was in Vancouver the past two summers, and I saw large numbers of Fits on the road there. My brother-in-law owns two of them.

Of course...not as many as I saw in Japan on a recent trip there.

But....I am really confused about you finding these 2010 Fits on a lot.

Where did the dealer hide them? It seems strange, as Vancouverites like small cars more than the average American city dweller does.
