Chevy rival to Fit nearly ready to hit the street

The Sonic is just as much a fail in my eyes as the Cobalt (even in SS mode). Too little, too late and based on Chevrolet's track record, especially with B and C segment cars, very unlikely to be reliable for anywhere near the years and mileage that the Japanese competition usually delivers.
I do believe that Honda has become a blander, less nimble, less interesting car company than it was a decade or more ago but so far I don't see serious competition coming from the "new" GMC. I think Ford is a much safer bet as far as an American car company that actually has a clue. Although I think it is a very long shot I'd love to see Fiat-Chrysler emerge as a serious competitor. Fiat-Chrysler I wouldn't bet on to build cars that are long term reliable but I think they have a greater chance of producing cars that have more soul than anything out of GMC. Bring on the Fiat Punto Abarth and the Alfa Romeo 4C.

Anyone else notice the steering wheel that looks like it came straight out of a 2001 Chevy Truck?
Sounds picky, but you have to hold that damn thing every time you drive the car. That's something the Fit sold me on when I first drove it - the steering wheel is a nice size, shape, and has a great feel to it being tightly leather wrapped.

Is this the same engine thats in the chevy cruze? I read in another forum stock, with a Trifecta Performance tune, a 35hp 54tq gain and 10% better fuel economy if your not gunning it all the time. How reliable will it be, will still need to be seen but still very impressive. Love to see how much more would be gained with just an intake and 3' turboback. Hopefully this opens the door to more turbo economy cars.

I think GM should bring back the Corvair. They were really cool little cars until the rear shocks wore out... They waited to long to go with IRS instead of a swing axle. Ralph Nader had the last word.before the much needed improvement was done. Remember GM is in the business of making money, not cars.

ooooh one of my favorite fantasy cars. 65/66 'vair with a 140. 4carbs 4spd (not sure the turbo is more fun without modern controls). Poor man's Porsche.
What's interesting is Chevy would have killed the corvair earlier than 1969 if it hadn't been for Nader's 1965 book. Instead they kept it alive just to spite him. They had the rear suspension sussed by '64. Even before '64 it was as good as VW's. Subsequent tests of 'vairs a decade later showed they were equal to or safer than any of their contemporaries.
It was Mustang and GM's own Camaro that killed the Corvair. That and Americans' taste for V8s.
Here's a nice example (though it has a powerglide). That buy-it-now is awfully tempting...
here's a really nice history of the model (from a really cool website).

My biggest beefs with Chevy are the dashboards that looks straight out of a power wheels in cheapness, and the seats that for some reason beat me up on a long drive (I feel like I get double Chuck Norris'd in the kidneys, so far in every Chevy I've been in). If they don't fix those, I'm not buying.

I can't wait to trade in my fit for something more torquey, Chevys competitor the sonic is almost here. And while a fiesta st or focus ST sound the most promising GM is making a strong move into our segment.

THAT is supposed to rival the Fit??? I ... I'm speechless. Go ahead and buy a Chevy, good luck with that. LOLZ.

Tech, yes, it is an aveo. as for more torque with Sonics added weight don't count on much from 1800 cc engine toting 200 more pounds, especially from gm. Building in MI and Mexico. GM says most of Mexican production goes to central america and South america but don't bet on it. Whichever produces cheapest gets the distribution.
Before buying, wait a year and see what falls out.
