Fit Extra Keys

I want to get an extra key for my Fit Sport that doesn't have the remote entry controls on it. I want it for going to the beach, pool, etc. where getting the remote control electronics wet would be possible if I kept it in my pocket. Do they sell just a key with a chip?

I inquired about getting an extra key when I bought my Fit. My dealer said it would be $88! My parents will just have to borrow my key if they want to drive my car.

So the Fit only comes with one key? That's a little ghey. I have always gotten two keys (and two remotes) with new cars I've bought.

The Fit comes with two keys with built-in remotes (Sport) or just two keys (regular). They all have the immobilizer chip, which is why they cost so much and need to be programmed.

Sorry guys, you don't have chance to get the other Key, because Honda didn't make any extra key for the Fit (doesn't matter is Base or Sport).

Even the Honda Part tell you they have but they don't have stock, because the computer say "YES" on everything. You have to put your "backorder". How long is going to wait? hahahaha................hell know!!!

My base Fit came with two keys. I'm a little disappointed with Honda, because I know their new Civics come with three (my friend bought one a week before I got my Fit).

My dealer ordered two keys (one with remote, one without) they came in less than a week. I now have four keys. If you get more keys you will need to take all keys with you when they are programmed.

For such cases, you could leave the electronic key in the car somewhere, and get a plain chipless key from any locksmith to unlock the door.

I plan to get a plain key to put in my wallet. Just in case I lock the keys in the car (again-- but not in the last 2 year)

I hope you were knocking wood as you typed that. Nothing like putting the bad juju on yourself.

My last couple of cars came with a "valet" key, that would only work the doors and ignition. But then again those cars had a trunk.

I haven't locked my keys in a car for 18 years. After doing it twice in the same week, I changed my behaviour. I figured out if you only lock the car with the key in the closed door, it's impossible to have left the keys in the car. Still trying to figure out how not to lose keys, though. We somehow lost the second set to our Mazda in the move to Thailand, and have been working with one key here for almost six years.

Only lock your car with the remote and you will never lock the key inside the car.

That way when someone breaks in your Fit, they might get lucky and not have to hotwire it to steal it.

I mentioned I've never NEEDED two sets of keys, but I'd still prefer to have them. I have never locked my keys in a car... with keyless entry. I have done so in cars without. You figure, you only lock the doors from the outside with the remote, and if you have the remote in your hands, you also have your keys.

I figure a person would have to be pretty dense to lock their keys in their car if they have keyless entry. Sure, you could do it by manually locking the door while you're getting out, then shutting it. But who does that when they can push a button on a remote? :P
