maybe I am too much a long life "car guy" (actually went to design school and studied transportation design) but no way does any Rabbit ever available in the USA look anything like a Fit! Even the 2007 Rabbit that is supposed to be coming here is much different to my eye.

But yes, there are a lot of "B" cars that are very similar to the Fit!

The first time I saw the A-class Merc, I just caught a glimpse of the right rear fender and taillight. I initially thought it was the Fit upgrade. Side-by-side I actually think the Fit looks better. It seems cleaner that the MB.

the rabbit looks very traditional but modern german car to me. They dont generaly copy others. They set there own trends. I have owned volkswagon cars so I am always kinda watching them. My last volkswagon was the diesle rabbit. It was wonderfull to drive excellent economy. The only down side is power was week in high altatude or when climing hills. It ran like a tractor in the snow. I ran out5 of fuel a couple times. you could drive 500 miles or more on a ten gallon tank. I filled each two to three weeks.

I think you are just thinking that subcompact class of cars look like each other. I don't think the Scion xA, Chevy Caliber, Nissan Versa, or the VW Rabbit look anything like the Fit.

The one car that comes very close to looking like a Fit is the Suzuki Aerio SX. We spotted one in the parking lot of a restaurant recently, and thought it was another Fit. The shape and size come close to Fit's specs and the interior, althought different, had a close Fit feel to it. I heard it has a bigger engine but don't know much about it's reliability or performance. Overall, I think the Fit is still more "fit" designwise. My friend's Mazda Protege is somewhat like the fit, but it's longer in length, and a bit clunky looking. I think most today's hatchbacks are designed similar to the Fit, but that might just be the basic hatchback design template.
