I think the "skreat tipe" is for people who generally can't read. JK!

If you really think about it, today's Fit is yesterday's ef & eg civic. both the civic and the fit are light, nimble cars. people these days want turn key sports cars at economy car prices. it can't really be done. you want a fit that can keep with sti's and such, then you pretty much have to consider an engine swap, just like people back in early nineties did with their crx's & civic cx's.

This. That was part of my thinking when I decided to look for a Fit, IMO, the Civic is too big now. The current Civic is as big as an old Accord. I like little cars.

In a straight line, yes. On a road course or Auto-X event, no.

Even in a straight line, you do not need an engine swap.

I still maintain that the Fit is a great looking car that exceeds expectations in many areas (especially considering the price point). I'm a little lost when it comes to trying to push it to race...if the goal was to race, why buy it over an Si? By the time the $ factors into getting it into a competitive condition, that same $ put into an Si would still produce a better racer.

I've had my Fit since 2007 and when I first got it the reaction from people was unexpected. I would come out from shopping to find people walking around the car. I would have people walk up to me and ask me questions about the car. I had people driving huge SUV's ask me to trade them due to the gas prices. My favorite is when my boss drove off a BMW lot with the key to a new BMW in his pocket. He asked me to return the key because the dealership was right down from where I live. I had just been to a car show that weekend so the Fit was looking great. I drove up to the BMW showroom parking in front of a huge plate glass window. Several guys were sitting around a desk by the window in their BMW sweaters. I walked in found the salesman I needed to return the key to and walked back around to my car. When I get there I see about 8 guys plastered against the windown looking at my Fit -(reminded me of the scene from Christmas Story when they are looking into the department store window) I see one guy straining to see the front grill and he is mouthing, "It's a Honda". I just smile and give them the thumbs up. I show my car in import classes and mostly I get compliments from people who really like the car. Anyone that ask gets to sit in the car and I love showing them how much room the interior has. Some guys hate on it because they just don't care for it but when the Fit gets pulled for the Import trophy which it has over an S2K, Scion TC and Rx7 - it just puts a smile on my face when I go get my trophy.

I actually haven't ever heard a negative comment about my Fit yet (at least not to my face) in 3 years of ownership. Just within the last week I was parked at a supermarket waiting for someone and saw a 30 something couple walk up from behind eyeballing the Fit (not realizing I was in the car), when they finally notice me the guy yells out "really nice car bro, never seen it before but it looks great!"

Just the other day I was at the Honda dealership for a service and I'm walking back to my car and see another couple huddle around my car. I come up to it and they say, "Oh this is yours? We thought it was for sale?! Really nice car!" I then proceeded to tell them how much I love my Fit, how great it is on gas and let them tour the inside of my car.

Because the same rule applies. The Si is just a more expensive car that still needs money invested to be competitive in its class. You just would be racing 3-series BMWs And FWD DSM Turbos instead of four cylinder Escorts and Pontiac Vibes.

Im new here and im a huge fit fan and i really like you guys community, i dont even own 1....this is a thread that should be posted on every car forum people will see here very soon that the b-segment will be there best friend.I had a 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Rspec Coupe kept it for Hyundai's full refund 90 day return thing.I really dont miss it with gas prices going up its hard to miss something when your not driving it besides it still had other issues other than gas, higher price figures dont make a car neither does sheer power and swoopyness...its a cars soul few have it...most dont.

Haters will hate.

I have owned my GE about 2 years now and I have never been hassled for owning it. That said not many of my friends are car people so I don't often find myself in a position to be teased. One of my friends has a beautiful Evo8 and he admittedly was judgemental of the fit at first; however, once he drove his sisters GD he quickly retracted his fun making and has since admitted what a peppy, fun little car the Fit is.

Should I worry?

I never thought about anyone making fun of a Fit car or owner until I saw this thread. We are considering buying a 2008 Fit for our 18 year old who is away at college without a car. I love the look and feel of it (but I'm a 49 y.o. Mom). Is he going to be embarrassed by it? We planned to surprise him. My thinking is he'll be grateful to have any car but should be thrilled to have a Honda that is small for easy campus parking yet great on space for hauling stuff like his bike.

To PeachFit - I bought my 2009 new and I loved the car. I didn't have any second thoughts on the purchase....yeah I got the girly car comments, but honestly I loved my Fit way too much to give those dumb comments my time :-)

Thanks, Backwoods.

Thanks, Backwoods. I, personally, could not care less if someone laughed at my car. I was surprised to read this thread and it reminded me that a Mom's priorities are different than a college boy's (Man, is that ever a loaded statement!). I think he's, like you, comfortable in his own skin and will be happy with it.

Peachfit - I think you addressed what I was going to focus on. As long as your son is confident in his own skin and doesn't really care what other people think the type of car he drives wont matter, irregardless of how "Girly" it may be.

The fit is economical, spacious, comfortable and fun. What else could a college kid want? That said, if his dream car is a "Honda" but he has never specified what kind, he may be a little disappointed if he was expecting a civic SI or a CRV and he gets a fit.

Good luck with your decision.

I'm 58 and my Quiropractor made fun of me when I traded in my 2004 Accord 6cyl 6 spd Coupe for a FIT Sport m/t.I think the key here is communication, maybe asking him what he thinks of the car, (like for some other kid),kids today are a bit unpredictable but he might surprise you.Best of luck,, and it is pretty considerate of you as a parent to bring that up,your son is very fortunate.
