Angry Well, that didn't take long

Exactly two weeks to the day that we picked up our Fit, and some douchebag nails our windshield with a big rock. It's shattered and the hood is scratched up. The rock is still laying there in the street where it landed, so it's not like they were trying to steal it. Just mindless vandalism. Anyone know if it will be hard to get a replacement windshield for the Fit? I guess I'll have a rental, but it will suck if I have to wait a long time.
F%^**ing so PO'd right now!

It's about $500 US too. It took about 2-3 weeks for my windshield to come in, they had to order it from Japan, but that was a couple months ago, maybe they are in stock now. No aftermarket windshields yet so that's not an option. Bummer to hear about though, the windshield is easy, the body damage not so much.

I wish I knew who did it. I wouldn't even need to do anything because my girlfriend is mad enough for the both of us right now. She would terminate with extreme prejudice.

Hopefully the body work won't be too difficult. It's basically 3 scratches/small dents from where the rock bounced down the hood. I can't believe the thing didn't go all the way through. It's the size of a 16-inch softball, and was clearly heaved with some force. We've got the insurance claim filed, just have to wait 2-3 days for the adjuster. We also took a whole roll of pictures of the damage. What a nightmare.

Sorry to hear about that Fudgie.

My Fit windshield got cracked too 2 days after I had it tinted - a rock kicked up from the road while driving to work. I have been really cheap about it b/c my deductible is $500. I've been waiting for 6 weeks before getting it replaced, but the crack has spread and now is a multiforked crack up to 3 feet long..

I found out that the glass costs $500 and labor is $175-200. The glass is not available from anyone but Honda. My windshield repair place ordered it last Tuesday and said 3-5 days for the windshield to come in. I'm hoping I'll have it by Monday.

Vandalism really stinks. It was obivously some juvenile mind that likes to destroy property. I reminds me of when I had my brand new Civic LX sedan parked in front of my sister's house in San Diego. In broad daylight someone tore off the door handle, and ripped most of my after-market Pionneer CD player out of the dash. I say most because the alarm was screeching the whole time and they weren't able to finish their dirtywork. By the time I heard it and ran out to the car, they were gone but had done about $1200 damage to the door, dash, and totallly ruined the stereo.

Maybe someone else saw or heard something. Ask your neighbors.

Wow that sucks. In a weird way, I would almost feel better if they had actually tried to steal the car or something inside it (although all they would have gotten would have been a pen, a 10-year old map of Wisconsin and my Owners Manual). At least there would have been a point to it. This was just so obviously; "Nice shiny new car, let's break it."

Condolences. I had the same thing happen back in '90. I can say it definitely ruins your day!

Wish there was a pro-active security system that would watch out for sob's like that, and at first sign of an attempt to vandalize your ride, the system would shoot them dead with a .50 caliber round. It could be mounted on roof tops, on a balcony, or high up on a corner building. Kill'em all I say, even if they are kids, I couldn't care less. Kids should be tried as adults if they commit adult crimes anyways... but that's my opinion.

Dude, a bit harsh. I like it. Remember the Bond movie with the Lotus (I think). One of the bad guy's henchman walks up to the car and pauses to read the anti-theft protection system warning sticker on the vent window, before smashing it with his rifle butt. The car blows up killing him. Sweet!

But then you destroy your ride, I want only the vandal destroyed

Once I found my 86 Accord had been puked on. WTF?!? Some drunk mofo, probably one of my neighbor's loser high-school friends did it. The same ones that took a shortcut walking through my backyard... I swear, I should've put up razor wire around the bushes so the kids would tear up their nuts trying to get through

That's true. I wonder if the insurance company would pay-off? At least you would have the satisfaction of knowing the bastard was a vaporized.

Seriously, I have often thought of different ways to get them. Maybe electric shock, maybe some sort of auto restraining device that would just disable the car and hold them, while alerting me and the police. There are problems with the civil libertarians, though.

When I was in college, there was a story about a rapist attacking women by breaking into their cars in parking garages around Ohio State, and laying in wait. One day he picked the wrong car. She was a woman commuter who was going to the vet college. When she got back to her car, she opened the back door, and allowed her two dobermans to get into the back seat first, where the unlucky rapist was hiding. Needless to say, the dobies took care of business, but the would-be attacker ended up suing her. If this story is true, it goes on that luckily it was an Ohio court (not the Peoples Republic of California), the judge through the case out, and they proceeded to prosecute the chewed guy for multiple rapes.

I believed this story 20 years ago. Not so sure now, because you see things like this popping up on the internet all the time, and most of them are BS. I would still like to think that at least one bad guy got what was coming to him though.

Believe me...I know your frustration. My last car was broken into twice in an attempt to steal a radar detector that wasn't even in the car. During the break in they scratched the paint on my passenger side door and busted glass all throughout the inside of my car...dumbasses. Luckily insurance covered the damages, but of course I had to pay my deductable.

Then on another occasion my other car was egged by some other vandals. It was a hot summer day and I didn't find out about it until a day later. Needless to say my clear coat was FU**ed. I'm guessing someone just didn't like our cars...and maybe they didn't like eggs either.

I understand your frustrations...and it just ticks me off that some people have nothing better to do with their time, than to ruin someone they don't even know's day.

Well, the good news is that it appears the Fit windshields are in stock. The glass place ordered it today from Honda and apparently will have it by Thursday. If all goes well, they will come out and fix it by Friday and at least I'll be back on the road. I've still got the dents and scratches, but those I'll get fixed up within the next few weeks (whenever this ungodly heat wave is over).
The bad news is that I'm out my $500 deductible. Soooooo...yeah...whoever did this - drop dead.

I havnt checked to see if the local windshield installers have a product for the honda fit, but a couple coworkers had theirs cars replaced, for $130. total for glass and installation. they come and replace it while you are working, while your car is parked. looks like original item to me. $175-$200 installation? seems like your installer is overcharging you bigtime. but then again, I'm near the big city of LA. some things are inexpensive, some are not.
