Does any one have anything to say about expectations of the life of the honda fit?

Honda has been putting out cars that go 200-300 thousand miles with out engine/transmision teardown if I am correct. Will the fit do the same? for examples previous hondas have broken timing belts therfore needing engin work but, besides that will we be able to expect 280000 miles on a fit? and why?
yes the fit has a chain which will stretch and wear... who knows perhaps that will be very expensive to change the chain and gears. I like my old honda that had a belt/valve system which would not bend valves at the time of a belt failure.
I dont mean to sound negitive but I know ther are a lot of smar5t and resoursefull people on this site that would have something to say. I actually expect the fit to set new standards... I would like to hear some of those comments. For starters the Fit burns 5w20w oil. I was told this means the tolerences are closer... thats good right?

Hey, I used to drive an 86 Accord
Anyway, I believe with regular maintenance and good care you can keep operating the Fit indefinitely
But in about 5-6 years I'll probably move on to another car. Hopefully by then the future generation Fit will be Made-in-USA, and there won't be a huge waiting period to get one

I'm expectignt to take delivery of a BOM Fit Sport AT in a week or two and I fully expect it to have excellent longevity. The reality may be that the higher-revving motor and the increased strain on the smaller displacement motor might take its toll.
I've owned 84 Accord Hatchback, 88 Civic Hatchback, 87 Accord Sedan, 96 Accord LX 5sp, and my wife has owned everything from a late 70's civic to her current '03 Accord LX. That 87 Accord was at 225k when we sold it and it ran like a top, didn't burn any oil, and I'm sure it is still going strong if the new owner didn't wreck it.
So confidence is high. Now for the reality!

My 1990 Civic Si had 408,000 kms (253,000 miles) when I sold it. I changed the piston rings on it at 360,000kms (223,000 miles) to cut down on the oil consumption. The engine was installed into another Civic, and it’s over 420,000 kms now (260,000 miles).
Not bad for a car that wasn’t treated well.

I fully expect this car to last me 20-25 years, I have only owned one other newer vehicle previous to this one and have instead had 15 year old vehicles that have lasted and lasted for another 8-10 years without serious problems for me. I feel that being a son and step son of two mechanics I will be able to manage to take care of this car well enough that it will last for a very long time.
*fingers crossed*

I have a '91 Civic SI that I'm hoping to ditch if the Fit I want ever gets here.
The car has been hit 5 times (4 cars, 1 deer), had 2 complete coolant failures (the deer and a leaky hose), has 308,000 miles on it, with by no means perfect maintenance. Never garaged. Of course, also no A/C, no power windows, locks, etc.
Starting to drink the oil a bit, but it still runs pretty well. Use it every day to commute (~55 miles roundtrip)
We also have an '00 Odyssey with 94K on it, and we're reasonably happy with it, too.
So, we're looking at Honda first for a replacement, but if Honda can't/won't get its act together soon, we'll look elsewhere. I like the cars, and I'd be prepared to be a Honda customer for life, but I'm getting tired of waiting for a new car (we had to wait 4 months for the Odyssey) every time, and if I buy something else and I'm happy with it, chances are much lower I'll be back as a Honda customer again.

I have a '94 Civic EX and other than the normal maintenance and a couple tie rods and suspension problems the car has had zero issues.
I hope my Fit lasts that long, although I don't really see myself keeping a car for 12 years again. Hopefully my income allows me to get a new car before 10 years is up!

lots of confidence on this thread.
I wonder what the life of the chain will be?
Another subject in one of the post on this thread- If I had to wait four months to get a Honda I would seriously consider a Toyota... A person that buys a toyota is a smart person wouldnt you agree?

Hondas are reliable, we all know that.
I believe the Fit is actually all made in Japan. Not Canada, not in the USA, all Japan. This is what I heard, and don't have anything to back it up with. If this is true though, this car is going to be VERY reliable I would think.
Can't go wrong with Toyota either, but the Fit is a GREAT deal.
